1.03A Ship Question

From the 1.03A History: fixed ships not saving home colony (should fix missing bonuses problem)
----
Ok, I had to stop and think about this and then try and figure out how to ask this question, so...two parts.

1) I had assumed that when a ship is launched from a planet with ship bonuses, that the game calculated the bonuses that existed at that time and applied them to the ship, saving that info with the ship itself.

BUT, the above text seems to indicate that the ship bonuses are not saved with the ship. Rather the ship's home colony is saved with the ship implying that the game refers to the home colony to determine what bonus the ships should have.

Is that correct?

2)If so, does that mean that the ships automatically get upgraded as the planet's ship capability gets upgraded? I mean, if the ship refers to the colony for the bonus info, does that mean when the colony gets better the ship gets better? If so I can stop wasting my time in making sure that the Starship Foundry et.al. gets built the turn before the Overlord gets finished, because even if the Overlord is built first, it will gain the Foundry bonus as soon as the Foundry is built anyway?

Is that correct?

Its probably bad form to bump ones one thread only 9 hours after posting it, but given the...shall we say "lack of organization" of this forum, I didn't want it to sink into the abyss unseen.

"That's just not right" (O.K., so I can't imitate Louie Anderson at all.) I'll have to play around and test that.

Yes. If you continue to upgrade the colony with ship quality bonues, it'll continue to increase the ship's bonuses.

Certain techs will also increase ships' bonuses even if they're already built.

Thanks CE. I figured the tech bonuses were universal.

I suppose tying the ship to the planet and just applying the same Sol Bonus to all ships tagged "Sol" was just easier to code and less resource intensive...but it doesn't actually make much sense from a realism perspective.

But, on the bright side, I do longer have to worry about the timing of my ship and social projects anymore.

What about if you sell the ship to another empire? Do they keep their bonuses or become "homeless" and lose them all?

If they do lose them I wonder if maybe there is a problem if the AIs are buying them at a price determined by their current stats, unaware that they will be weaker when the deal is finished.

What happens to ship bonuses when you lose the planet it was built on?

Vanir:

If trade routes are any indication of home base settings, a ship you sell to another empire will be based on the closest planet (relative to the ship) held by that empire.

bralex:

In a similar manner, I would speculate that the ship home base is simply transferred to the planet nearest that ship in question.

Perhaps CariElf can answer this in more detail...

I see a chance for a serious bug...

What happens if you LOSE a less then PQ15 world to the AI? The AI now abandons those worlds, right? What happens to the ships from that world? Or what about if the ship's home gets Terror Starred?

I'd think SD would be better off just recording the shipyard bonus when the ship was made. It would then get around the problem of lost home worlds...

Hmm...it looks like the colony stays the same if you trade it.

Fixing that.
