'The Terraformer'

Before getting 'The Terraformer' why not colonize all planets which are rated 14? Good idea? Probably double the number of planets you own? Also is it good to colonize on non yellow stars, like planet 14 on a green star? do the stars make a difference in production or morale?

Thanks,
J

Planet quality defenitely has an effect on morale. A 14 quality planet can always be a good idea to colonize. With soil enrichment and habitat improvement it is already a class 16 or 17 planet.

If you've chosen the Green Thumb ability it's even better.

It's an ability you can pick before you start the game. You spend a few of your 10 abilitypoints on it.

Anything less than 15 is usually a waste of time and money to colonize unless you have a strategic reason for doing so. The +PQ bonuses aren't so you can have more crappy planets, it's so you can have less. Planets don't really start kicking in until they hit 18 or higher. It's a case of severely diminishing returns to colonize anything less than 15 unless, as said above, there are strategic reasons for doing so (need to extend your fuel range, using the planet as a base for culture flipping, etc.).

Less than 15 indeed for strategical reasons, although sometimes an event happens when you colonize it and you can improve the Planet Quality (if you want to be evil, that is) ;) > I still colonize 13/14 quality from time to time, if it could be worthwhile to be able to extend the available sectors around you, i.e. if you can't reach sectors with an interesting amount of stars in it due to range limitations with your current tech level.

Yup I forgot to add that. Only for strategic reasons. To expand your range or for culturecontrol.

I think that green thumb crap is just overpowered. You can so easily double the number of planets you own :/ I played one game with that and I just couldnt stop expanding. I tried I tried but there was always something left to colonize and by the time I ran into neighbors, well except the little guys I colonized around, I controlled 2/3 of them map :(

14 pq planets can be ok on their own...13 pq is pushing it...12 only if you have really good morale and you really need to increase your range.

I have the 5% green thumb ability. I've found 13-14 to end up being fairly productive. But you can't do too many at one time. They suck resources untill brought up to 15. And a lot of the time, you get the Kill the worms=+30%pg on them anyway. Bwahahahahaha all the better.
