Mining doesn't generate profit directly, but imparts an ability bonus upon your empire depending on the resource being mined. If you examine a starbase on a resource, you should see a "+X% Economy/Research/Military/Morale/Influence" that indicates what type of bonuses you are receiving and how large a benefit it is.

"These bonuses go to the entire empire or the home planet?"

Starbase bonuses go to any planets in that sector.

The total bonus you see in the planet details is your empire wide bonuses + system bonuses + planet bonuses

There are no mining profits per se, you just get a higher bonus from the resource... and it adds on to your racial abilities. Look on the stat screen of your empire screen (with the taxes and all that stuff).

Interesting thought though, RXDOC. What if there was a resource that generated $$$.

Eh... let's try not to confuse people. There are three types of starbase bonuses, empire wide, starbase only, and sector wide.

- Empire wide bonuses are the result of extracting resources on the map. This is what we generally refer to as "mining"

- Starbase defense modules only benefit the starbase itself. The Terror Star upgrades fall in this category naturally.

- Everything else grants a sector wide bonus.

No doubt in a design to disorient new players however, there are some "Military & Social Production" bonus modules that are listed under the "mining" category in the starbase information screen, but these only benefit planets in the immediate sector (e.g. Phase I to III Factories). There are only 8 pure mining modules that grant empire wide bonuses. They are...

Resource Refinery
Advanced Resource Refinery
Mining Barracks
Mining Headquarters
Hyper Mining
Ultra Mining
Nano-Rig Extraction
Extraction Center Zeta

It might be of some benefit for you to visit Javacsout's DB and check out the modules:

I'd send you to my tech tree as well, but the site is down for some reason right now. Maybe you can try some time later:
