Metaverse annoying! :-(

Metaverse annoying! :-(

I was not online when finishing my 1st game (v1,00; didn´t get a prompt or anything.

I went online, back to autosave, finished a 2nd time. I had been playing a small game, average opponents, cultural victory, though when uploading the opponents were shown as sub-normal, why?

My entry reads as opponents: N/A, morality: N/A, and doesn´t even say I won! >:( >:(

AOL? Hmm... I wonder if there are other AOL users. Perhaps the game isn't recognizing the connection to the net under AOL? I know AOL connections going to the web funnel through some web proxy at some point. That's why if you're at work behind a firewall, the AOL web browser doesn't work.

But not knowing how GalCiv handles the connections, I don't know what could be happening here. Are there any other AOL users that have this problem?

AOL is incompatible with games AFAIK.

Really dumb question... what does AFAIK mean?

I wouldn't say AOL is incompatible with games. Way back when, when I used to use AOL, I played multiplayer with it. Not the fastest, but it was possible.

As Far As I Know

At least i saw it many times on many forums - it's don't support TCP/IP or something like that. But i may be wrong - i'm from Russia so i don't have AOL :) 99% that it's not sending scores because of AOL.

Since I just upgraded my PC so I could play this game and got a free year of AOL, I am not about to change.
What I just did is open up stardock, go to the Galciv forum, used the link from Frogboy and registerd Jourin again. Then with IE open through the stardock screen, I won the game again, hit done, but no luck. If somebody has an idea or an answer, I will log back in a couple of hours. I really wanted to upload this game before I upgrade to 1.03.

Jourin:

If as ellestar suspects you have a connectivity recognition issue betwen the game and/or metaverse and aol's finicky browser, then try this.

1. If you (it used to be an imbed within aol's browser) have any version of explorer, you can use it as your browser essentially bypassing any aol browser incompatibilities. (it won't work if the incompatibility problem is within aol's servers themselves).

Try finishing your game again . Then alt tab and Log on through your aol browser. At this point Click on the blue e if you have explorer loaded on your system When explorer loads go back to your game If you don't see where you can submit hit done and see what happens this time.

That may not be your problem but I can tell you that when I had aol 3/4 of the time, when that finicky aol browser just wouldn't upload, or download what I wanted. Going through explorer instead (essentially bypassing the aol browser ) poof worked 3/4 of the time. It usually always did it for on-line games and submissions of the same type.

I know it's tiresome but its probably worth one more lil stab in the dark before you give it up.

Oh and I registered here, then the metaverse using my code from my cd's jewel box if that's any help regarding registration. I didn't even have stardock or drengen then either. Still don't have drengen. I used the same nick both places and used that nick when I submitted. Hope this helps.

Of course if you'd just join the G.R.O.S.S. empire via the metaverse it would instantly recognize you mean business and take it. :) Hope the laugh cheers ya up.

Ponts, I tried that and it still didn't work. Maybe Frogboy or someone at Galciv can give me a hand. I could e-mail them my game along with my screen name and registration code (if they need it). If it is something to do with AOL, maybe they can fix their upload. AOL is kinda big, I thought they would support connectivity with them.

Maybe my game is corrupted? After the first time, I won and got rejected, I now have to play about 3 more months to win again, so I have played about 30 months since my first victory - for all the different methods I have tried to load.

I can give up and just start a new 1.03 game, but I did not want to waste a good score. I spend weeks playing one game, so at this rate I will never crack the top 1000.

Besides I consider myself a good player and wanted to "help" the AI get better.

Thanks, only one problem: My usual strategies tend toward pragmatism (being neutral diplo master, and playing the good and evil guys off against each other).

Coffee: We at G.R.O.S.S. encourage neutral and good strategies (seeing them both merely as evil in disguise). And I must say your strategy of faking neutrality, playing off one vs the other (all the while profiteering off both) is just the evil cunning we're looking for!!! That's worth 5 evil submissions in and of itself. Remind me to make you a senator if you join. :)

Jourin: I sure hope we've been of some help.

Keep playing though. You'll get better and better and when you finally can submit, you'll have boku games experience (and thus get more points) under your belt.

Jourin, please email [email protected]. tell him what you've told me specifically and ask if he can look into the metaverse scores to see if he can find Jourin. Include what your GalCiv CD / Drengin serial # is.

Here is how it works:

In the game, it submits the handle you use and the CD key (serial #) to the metaverse.

Then on this side, after you create an account here, which you have, you then tell it what your handle is and your CD key (serial #). It then goes in and matches them together.

It's pretty solid code wise.

It leaves pretty limited possibilities

1) Your score didn't get transmitted due to connection rpoblem, fire wall, etc. (not likely)

2) You typed in a different handle when you submitted the game then what you put when you registerd (it may be case sensitive, not sure).

3) You put in a different serial # than what it accepts.

There are other possibilities too actually:

4) You're using an older version of GalCiv that had a problem with certain TCP/IP stacks

5) Your AOL connection is messing it up for some reason and hence your score is never getting up there.

Frogboy, I sent the e-mail along with the zipped file of the game. If you start the game, you will have to play about 3 months before you win. I am only at 96% cultural victory, but with 90% military victory and over 50% tech victory I think I won the game. I was wondering if I need to be at 100% cultural before I could submit, by why do I then win at 96%.

Everyone, thanks for all the help!!

Kind words and a bribe make a convincing argument. :p Joined.

Okay, my office machine is running the Drengin.net version, and my home machine is running the Stand Alone version, and my account is registered with my Stand Alone serial # and I've finished three Gigantic, Intelligent, games but only my first game shows up -- I haven't finished any games yet on my office machine (I can't spend that kind of time playing at work). Can one register two *different* serial #s to the same account?

I am having similar problems registering my completed game scores to the Metaverse. I have registered and at the completion of the game while I'm online I get the screen to register my score, which I have done for 2 games now. Neither have shown up on the Metaverse, or at least I can't locate them. Help!!! >:(
