G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

Cringe in fear do gooders. The G.R.O.S.S. (Get Rid Of Slimy alienS) empire is now formed. In less than an hour we have jumped 95 other Pacifist Doo Gooder victim empires and lept into 40th out of 135 ranked.

We are an evil empire bent on controlling everything and showing all the other empires out there who's boss. US. Are you listening Euro-"Oh lets let everyone be a senator and give em a vote doo gooder democracy alliance?" We come for you.

For a limited time, (untill I decide otherwise) 5 Pure Evil games, (or just impressing me with your game evilness) submitted will get you a Senatorship. Later, being the evil empire pyramid scheme we are, it will take 10. Of course, being the evil empire we are, that gives you no benefits, no pay, but all the alien carnage you crave most.

Now we do realize that sometimes, you just have to fake being good. You sometimes just have to infiltrate that pacifist party. We understand. But we aren't a kinder gentler empire and don't let their pacifism go to your head. And just sometimes, you gotta let the Aliens live (where else would you find slaves for the heavy metal lava mines?)

In the future, we shall update each other in the empire via this thread, brag of our conquests, drink blood wine, and generally just poke fun (creatively and humorously) at those players whom we find to be too goody goodyish.

Our mottos.

G.R.O.S.S. Where being good is merely a temporary strategy.

Just win baby.

Here's your ration of skin you do gooder wimp Drengin slime. Now get back to work

EBZeroMatrix you have been made a senator.

I repeat. Cringe in fear, we come for you.

There are two ways to form the confederation,

A. One conglomerate is formed where each theme member has in their name a call sign for their house empire. EXAMPLE:
The member list would look something like this:

GROSS_Pontius
REP_LifeWish
FTR_Ray_The_Wanderer
etc.

and the senate could be hand picked by each joining empire, such as:
REP: me, and two others
GROSS: PBP and two others that he picks
etc.
To avoid getting an enormous senate, we would impose restrictions on how many could be put on the senate:

For example, An Empire on the top ten could have three senate members and 20-11 could have two and all others only one to avoid over crowding.

The callsign system could also be used so that after we disolve the cofederation and restart our individual empires we could go right back to the original design.

OR

B. Have a publicly stated alliance between all our theme empires and all individually try and take control of the meta against the locals.

Either way works, so think it over.
I will repost this in the FTR forum so they can review it.

We're still waiting on thoughts from the rest of us on
1. Ending the war with the republic
2. said confederation.

I for one didn't get into this game to elect senators..., be in politics between empires, be a hyphenated citizen ie G.R.O.S.S-confederation and all that stuff they are proposing, but I won't stop you all if that's what you wish.

Oh I forgot, I favor the peace treaty. Provided they pay their cantina tribute. In favor of a loose alliance and world war of sorts, provided we get some ground rules and make it fun. Not in favor of giving up our identity for an uber empire. But I certainly wouldn't stop you guys if that's what you wanted.

The idea of loosely allied factions is pretty good. No one has to remake any empires, no identities lost in merger madness. Someone just has to say which empires are in what factions and the rules will be and the Spymaster will be glad to keep score. But I am against making any "super senators" for each faction that exist outside the normal empire framework.

I am also leaning towards a stated alliance, as the Republic is undergoing some major reforms, and to give it up for a Confederation, even if temporary would be difficult to say the least.
Wars? Confederation? huh??? Well for one, we are G.R.O.S.S. ....I dunno why we would suddenly become a confederation (yet somehow I think I missed reading something here...)

As for war, heh... I vote against stopping the war. In fact I will also vote to make war with everyone else that we aren't currently at war with! Well that's just me. A blood-thirsty pirate, and latley I haven't been getting enough of that blood, so I'm all for more war. heh heh heh

My vote is for peace with the Republic. Our efforts should be concentrated on defeating the undead and the vile empires that serve them.

As for the confederation, I would support any system as long as it does not interfere with the empires' identities.

Oh, come on EBZ! For the Good of the meta we need to stir things up a bit, GROSS has been on top for as long as I can remember and frankly its gotten, well, boring. I think that more of the same is just going to make the metaverse lose even more of its value adding members, who will just leave out of bordom. Come on be adventurous, CHANGE! :)

Ok, so tell me then. How would it be fun? I mean, really, it would have to take a act of god to change my vote...either that or you'd have to be really convincing.

lol, ok I'll work on my debating skill.

For the past three months the general scene on the metaverse has been The undead make a few submissions and come into range of/overtake GROSS. Gross members go on a gaming spree and take back first. Repeat
Wet, lather, rinse, repeat.

No variety, and frankly it seems that already the Canadian Star Federation has become much less active on the forums and things have begun to stagnate. Look into the future for a few months and what you will find is that the undead will, well for lack of a better word, die. What will happen is that the players inside the Empire will find it boring forever chasing the GROSS indefinetly for first so they will just stop and go play hockey or something and they will fall from their current standing, leaving the next in line to come up to second and start the process all over again. Eventually GROSS members (and I'm not talking the hardliners but the majority) themselves will become bored with the status of things and start slowing in their posting of scores. You and PBP may keep playing till the day your computer explodes, but without the full support of your member body, you will fall.

And when that happens there is going to be a rush to recruit fresh folks, but since we are talking a few months in the future both the flow of new members will have slowed and the free agent body who are willing to join Empires will have dried up considerably, ESPECIALLY high scoring/highly skilled players. Thus the issue of Online critical mass will have come to conclusion and since no new input has taken place and we have washed our hair 20 times in the wet, lather, rinse, repeat cycle.

So, in conclusion to avoid falling into the MMPORPG critical mass route to destruction we should continually evolve and change things to avoid losing the very thing that keeps this metaverse alive, having fun!

EBZ, speaking of your war tendencies, how's your latest battle coming along.?

The vote is pretty much unanimous that we wouldn't merge empires.

What is being proposed is nothing more than a little war game for awhile. Themers vs Locality empires. Your submissions would still go to G.R.O.S.S. Although how we would keep score is still up in the air
Reply #1262 Top
I just submitted a game. Finally, lol. 16k nor/gig. That's not bad.

As far as G.R.O.S.S. being on top... well I would guess it's everyone else's loss that they can't make it to the top. Yes, I don't expect for G.R.O.S.S. to be up there forever, yet in the meantime, I plan on making my contribution to keeping it up there for as long as possible.
Exactly, and the reason why GROSS has maintained its lead so long is because you have a lot of good players who are dedicated to your empire. You couldn't ask for more. BUT, if things do not change in the very near future then things will get old and it is human nature not to want to do things, especially things that are supposed to be entertaining, if they get boring or are replaced by something more fun, or interesting (and you know how often games are released) then people will naturally stop playing. Thus we should make things interesting to avoid this. That is my argument.
Well let me ask you then... Why don't you guys get good? Or any other empire? Just liek G.R.O.S.S. ya just have to work hard to achieve your goals.
Wouldn't be so hard if you had a more active membership. That's what is winning it for them right now. And really that's what this loose alliance is trying to get at, more activity.

Speaking as an ANZAC. GROSS are 198,000 points ahead of us.There is no fun in chasing such a total.

Then G.R.O.S.S. is achieving its goals. G.R.O.S.S. (to my knowledge) has no plans on stepping down anytime soon.

Next!

I hear ya. We've sort of run away with things. There ought to be some other ways to compete. To be honest, I do think that is a source of some of the whining, hypocrisy, and whining around the metaverse.
I was thinking another way to compete is to hold some kind of GOTM where empires could send its representive/s to play.

But it would have to be on a honour system as this is single player. Let's think of suggestions on fun, healthy competition between empires beyond the Meta.

We can still compete on Meta but that doesn't have to be the only form.

There is always a shelf life to any game and any ladder system. This game is no exception, and trying new things, fun though they may be, will do nothing to change that. We were once as you are now. Smaller even. No one thought we could make it to the top 10, let alone the top. Just as games have a shelf life, so do Empires.

If we wish to do something like world war 1 hehe, lets do it cuz we'll have fun. Because it's not going to save a metaverse or extend the shelf life of this game. Nor will it solve the problem of some of the whining.
A metaverse-wide conflict of epic proportions would certainly liven things up, Pontius. :)

I wasn't concerned about the localities not playing along. Look what we did to the Canadians. They didn't ask to be the Undead. :D

Sheesh, a guy works - in real life, that is - for a couple of days and comes back to a much-fattened Threadzilla and talk of peace. PEACE?!? Guys, we're EEEEEVIL, aren't we? Think of other evil things:

- Orcs
- Car salesmen
- Nazis
- Grey Davis (should get a laugh out of fellow CA residents)
- Drengin
- In-laws
- The IRS

Are any of them willing to quit a particular war just because somebody offers an armistice? Nah... not a chance.

But then again, beer tribute may be acceptable. After all, the Survey Ship of Doom has a tendency to run through its own reserves in no time at all.

****DISCLAIMER****
If any of you reading this are offended because you are a member of any of the above-mentioned groups of individuals (orcs included), please know this was in jest. After all, I'm a lawyer in real life, so I know all about being on the wrong side of jokes. Uh-oh, I'm beginning to wonder if I should have mentioned that.

Alright, I doubt I'll be able to get another game in until this weekend, but it should be a good one. Now that I've got my 20 victories, I'm ramping up the difficulty a notch and should be finishing up a Large-Challenging game in the next couple of days. I've yet to convince my boss that it's alright for me to play at work... but I haven't given up. :)

So - just to be clear - my votes are as follows:

Peace with the Republic: Aye (if adult beverages are included in the tribute).

Absorption of G.R.O.S.S. into any uber-empire: Nay. Nay. Nay.

Creation of a loose alliance between G.R.O.S.S. and other like-minded empires: Aye. (though further 'tribute' might be appropriate from lesser empires that would truly benefit from an affiliation with the mighty G.R.O.S.S.)

I was thinking another way to compete is to hold some kind of GOTM where empires could send its representive/s to play.
End of quote

Now THAT's a good idea... might be difficult in execution, but the theory's nice. Since G.R.O.S.S. has a wide base of players, we'd be able to do quite well in most any scenario so long as we sent the right member into the fray. Hmmm.

Well, I'm outta here - 'night, all.
