I'm having some problems with group and fleet

So far as I can tell fleet membership and group membership don't have any effect on each other.

Once I found a ship could belong to several groups, I found it handy, but I'm missing any easy way to clear these group memberships to leave a ship fresh for reassignment, other than ctrl-shift-clicking on each possible number for the ships. Any easy way to do this?
