Stupid Questions!

Hey there all. Ive been going through some of the posts and noticed that most people have a fair idea on how to mod this game and stuff like that. And being someone with no computer knowledge at all, I thought  I woud make a post for "Stupid" questions!!

So if anyone has any questions that there afraid to put on other posts in case there afraid they will be insulted, Here is the perfect place to ask it. And im going to get it started lol.

1) How do i get the mods into the game and get them working? Ihave no idea how lol.

2)Is there anyway(That doesnt involve a lot of my own modding)To get more then one mod working at a time? What i mean is say..

Mod 1)

Supply cap = 5000

TEC frigate more powerful

Mod 2)

Supply Cap = 6000

Advent frigate more powerful.

Is there any way i can get

Mod i want)

Supply cap = 6000

Advent frigate more powerful

Tec frigate more powerful

Without doing a lot of modding? And if so could someone tell me how to mod. Thanks a lot in advance.

1) Put all the mod files into your user directory, which is

Vista:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods

XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods

For example, if your mod was called "Test", the most basic setup you would have is \Mods\Test\GameInfo

You might have to show hidden files/folders to see the whole path, and note that you need the whole GameInfo folder there, not just the files you're modifying. Obviously if you download mods you don't have to worry about it.

2) That's a tricky question. The way modding works in Sins is there's a file for pretty much everything. Supply cap modding uses a bunch of research files and gameplay constants, so those are shared, but the Advent and TEC frigates are separate. So if you try to combine them in that way, the supply cap changes from one mod will overwrite the other, but the frigates use different files so you'll get both.

In general, I wouldn't recommend mixing mods by brute force like this, and definitely not if the mods have the Strings folder in them because then the game will crash since you'll have the strings from one mod but not the other, and to make a mod with everything you'd like in one go. You could also request a mod you like, and maybe someone will make it for ya.

Hope this helps :)

Next stupid question:

Does StarDock Central download a setup file, or does it download and run the installer all in one go?

I'm only asking becuase I'm in a school network which won't lt me download the file, and I was wandering if I could get a friend to download it for me.

As far as I know, you can download it on one machine, archive it through SDC, then burn the archive and the SDC installer on a disc, take it to another machine and install it from the archive. You'll need SDC to work with the archive, hence the installer too :P
