A nasty nurse or two

I don’t want to die like you
it’s too slow and unseen
a car here a mortgage there
endlessly churning ourselves into
endless reams of paper and signatures
and documents to hide in safe deposit boxes

I don’t want to grow melancholy looking at
3x5 Kodak moments and regretting I didn’t
live more chance more dream more
didn’t tear a big enough chuck of life
instead taking small sips and being safe
comfortable

I don’t want to live a secret fantasy life
pretending over internet servers to be the
person I never was or would be
no dark master of cyber verse proportions
nor would my attention serve any good
notions of truth and chat-room justice

I want to go out swinging
holding god’s coattails and flipp’n the
devil off rescued by the skin of my teeth
laughing in glory
but no colorless hospital room with white
sheets and the endless drone of some life sustaining
machine

no hospitals for johnny--of course, if there’s a nasty
nurse or two…
