Plugging in factions

I haven't noticed this really discussed at all, but the way Sins is, is it possible to mix and match custom factions?

I mean, could someone create a faction as a mod, and when people go to create their game, they could then select to include these factions, instead of just turning on a mod that affects all 15.

This kind type of modding would allow for someone to take a 15-faction Star Trek mod, drop the Ferrengi and Cardassians, plug in the Ori from a Stargate mod, and the Rebel forces from a Star Wars mod.

Thoughts?  Or did I not read around enough or properly understand modding in Sins enough before making this post?

If this type of thing doesn't exist currently then perhaps it's something we lobby to try and have included officially in a future patch?

If it exists but only as a manual process perhaps an app could be created or mods designed in a certain way going forward to allow for this kind of coexistance of the factions from many mods in our games kind of on-demand?

You can just delete the Player*.entity file to remove a race. Though this is a pretty idealistic notion. Mods will edit the strings files, types of guns, textures, meshes..you can't just plop them all into one folder.

Maybe thats something that should be addressed in a patch or the modding tools?

Allow for factions to become mods self contained mods themselves, instead of full conversion mods. Add functionality in game to pick and choose the factions from the available mods you wish to play against.

Guessing this isn't a realistic goal?

Would be neat to play a Star Trek + Star Wars + Galactica skirmish by including a couple of factions from each to make up your game's players.

What's the closest this can come, community made application to manage mods between developers working together to balance factions made specifically for this effort, in effect becoming a mod itself?

I may not be making sense now...

You'll just have to modify your game for your own personal use.

You don't understand. Even if the mods' guns, strings, what have you could magically be merged, you'd be asking every major mod team to balance their mods against each other, account for differences in play style, and all sorts of other things that aren't possible or even worth the time to implement.

If you want a Star Wars vs Star Trek vs Galactica mod, you will have to create it from those three mods, merging it and balancing it yourself. What you are talking about just isn't possible.
