Modding TA - custom TechTree

OK, I can't figure out how to make a custom TechTree under the mods directory. If I place my file in the standard TechTree directory, my custom character can select that techtree. No matter where I place the file in the mods directory, it doesn't show up. I've put it under data, under tech, even creating a new TechTree folder and putting it there - nothing. I have enabled the use of mods, and selected the correct mod directory. NEbody?

follow these steps and it'll work.
1. in the mods directory, create a folder with any name you want
2. copy the "ModDescription.xml" from the folder called "default" in the DL mods directory to your new directory.
3. open it with notepad or text pad or something
4. edit the description string so it says what you want it to.
5. create a folder withing your directory called "data"
6. within there, create a folder called "TechTrees"
7. Paste your race's tech tree in there

the custom TechTree will have to go in TA main TechTree File to work putting it in the mod file it will not work as long as you name it your custom race name it should be find,...
Do not mod one of the other races TechTrees or on a update it will be replace

Hopefully that is the only file in TA that will be that way

are you saying that you can't put your Tech Trees in you mod's folder in TA?
didn't know that.

no the TreeTech dones not seem to work any where except in the main file of the game. the rest of your mods will work in the mod file.

DSep unless you know something I do not it will not work in the mod file.

They did at one point load from the mod folders, but after a certain beta (3 or 4, I think) they stopped working and you had to place them into the main data folder.

Since custom races are enabled now, it might be possible that they allow loading of custom tech trees properly from the mod folder...

i was talking to Cari the other day and we discovered that the engine points to the wrong mod directory. Instead of [mod name]/Data/TechTrees it was loading from [mod name]/TechTrees. so she fixed it. i don't know if the fix was included in beta 6 or not. If not, you could paste the tech trees in a TechTrees folder within the mod's main directory.
