Pirate Backstabbing?

I got to a point in the game where I end up paying about 8-9k for pirates, however it just so happens that one of my planets was in the route of the pirates. Luckily they didnt start attacking me since I won the bet of course, but the stupid thing is that the planets defenses went after them including idling ships that I had hanging around and by the time the pirates had jumped out of the well I had destroyed half of their fleet that I paid for.

So far I've tried pressing the stop button but the defenses like gauss platforms and hangers still go after them even my idling ships still go after them after pressing the stop button numerous times however im able to stop my ships from attacking them jus by giving them orders to move but I have to keep doing that until the pirates leave the well which takes a long time since they move so slow.

Is there a command that I can issue to my empire to stop attacking them? or is this a bug? or is it how its suppoed to be and i cant do anything about it?

please help. Thanks :D

It's not a bug, sometimes the pirates just take a route to the target that passes by your space.. they won't stop to attack, but your defenses/ships naturally do since pirates are enemies. You can disable auto-attack on your units to make sure as many pirates as possible survive the trip through your space. :)

Auto-attack. Turn it off to let them through. Don't forget to turn it back on.

I've shepparded a couple of fleets through a couple of my planetary systems before. Then, reactivated guns and jumped in behind them. Ah, what a target rich environment that was.

But if i disable the auto-attack then they wont attack other enemies that enter my space when im paying attention to other things. :(

oh ok i can just turn it back on i guess. thx :)

or you can just move them to the other side of the system... they won't move back in time to attack/be attacked by the pirates... and their auto attack is still on for other things.

Your other option is to not bother wasting money to stop the pirate raid. Simply let the pirates come to you and be sure you have enough defenses to fend them off. If you leave a capital ship in the area you can use the encounters to level up. Sometimes you can't help but be in the path of the pirate fleet, especially on random maps, just try to use it to your advantage.

You could also build up your fleets and head out to take out the Pirates home base, it doesn't do you much good to hold it, but at least then you don't have the pesky "impending pirate raid" warnings going off all the time.
