Diplomacy newbie

There are so many diplomacy threads that I did not know what to believe. Basically, I want to eliminate my AI opponents one at a time. So, what I want to do is to make as many friends as possible. The AI that does not want to be friends gets killed.

Is this possible? If so, how do I make friends with the AI ?
