Do you have CursorFx installed? Also what OS are you using? In windows you could try right clicking and selecting open with then browse for cursorFx (normally found under C:\Program Files\Stardock\CursorFX\CursorFx.exe)

I have Windows XP Home version.
Yes I have CursorFX.exe and the file and the cursor I download goes to
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared documents\Stardock\CursorFX\themes.
However it is downloaded as a document file.

Not sure how you are downloading the cursor skin but there is a function within the CursorFX program it self that helps you download new ones. I use that and don't have any problems.  ;)

I am downloading the cursor skin by using the RED DOWNLOAD BUTTON.
File Name: NextofSkin

File Type:

From: Skin4.wincustomize.com

Now, when I press save it says.

Save as type: Document

Okay DennyB here is how I download new cursors.

Open up the CursorFX program, on the left hand side click of More Cursors, click on the blue highlighted link to WC.com. This should take you to the CursorFX Gallery Library. Select a cursor and click download, then select open.

In most cases it will automatically change your cursor to the one you just download or a window will open showing you a zipped file for the cursor. Just double click the file and it should do the same.

Hope this helps. Post back and let us know what happens. ;)

Philly:

Do You think your trying to help out an idiot?

I did exactly what you said. It downloaded to a temporary Folder, I pressed open and it said. To open this file, windows needs to know what program created it.

Thank you for being patient

Denny

DennyB no, I was just trying to help and when I do that it is always good to be very detailed. I'm very sorry if you felt I was talking down to you in any way.

Now, look what I wrote in my reply and then look what you wrote. Why did you press open when you saw the temp folder? Double click the zipped cursor file.  ;)

What is the extention of the file on your PC after you have downloaded it?  Is it a {somethig}.zip or a {somethig}.cursorFX?
What browser are you using?

Philly I'm so sorry, I meant That I must be an idiot.
I selected a cursor and clicked download, then select open.
The window opens showing me file type: IT"S BLANK the zipped file is not there for the cursor.
There is no extension. it want's to load as a document.
You folks are great for trying to help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are some cursors that do have a zipped file under file type: and those do download ok.
On the Curso FX home page try downloading NEXTOFSKIN and see it it downloads for you.

Thank You

Downloaded fine.
Extension is CursorXPTheme which should be readable by CFX.
After you download it as a document, add the extension "CursorXPTheme" and try to open it.
Perhaps it's a problem with yoru browser.  Can you try another?

DennyB, just downloaded Next of Skin with no problem. I use SDC and it's web browser, so as Zubaz says it may be the browser you are using that is causing the problem. I also downloaded as I said in reply #7 above. It wasn't a zip so it downloaded directly into CursorFX.  ;)

Sorry guys,
Was gone out of town.
Well I tried everything that was asked of me and I also use the SDC browser.
Some Cursors do download but others do not.
Nobody answered my question above about FILE TYPE:. When I press download the FILE TYPE IS BLANK, THAT'S WHEN THE CURSOR DOWNLOADS AS A DOCUMENT. If the FILE TYPE: IS NOT BLANK, than that cursor will download correctly.
any ideas?
Thanks
Denny

Well DennyB not sure what to say other than an email to [email protected] sounds like it should be your next step. Give them a link to this post. If you list the other cursors that are giving you a problem I will give them a try. ;)

Nobody answered my question above about FILE TYPE
End of quote
See my reply 13.
Next of skin is has a cursorFXtheme file type.  (that's the default for CursorFX)
CursorFX uses the fiel type cursorFX but can use cursorFXtheme

What cursors have you downloaded that worked?  I'll bet they are called something like mynewcursor.cursorFX and the ones that fail are mynewcursor.cursorfxtheme

I don't think this problem is related to the Stardock software. I think it's related to yoru OS or browser.

What borwser are you using?
Can you use another?
Once you download next of skin can you change or add the extension (filetype) cursorFXtheme?

Can someone help with this one? If I dl a file with .curxptheme all works but .cursorfx dont. My program is called CursorXP not CursorFX. I am using XP.

John, if it's a CursorFX file it won't open in CursorXP becuase it's a different file extension and it only works for CursorFX. That's why I make all my cursors in CursorXP so that everyone can use it and it doesn't need FX

J. Aroche is correct. XP is the previous version of the software. The XP files are forwards compatible but the FX are not backwards compatible.

On a side note we had someone in support today with this same sort of trouble. Once we had him try another browser, right click save as... then drop it on his desktop he was able to simply copy and paste the files right into the CursorFX directory. I'm still not sure why using the quick means of opening it through the browser did not work but this seemed to solve the issue in a similar situation.
