Is there a way to start out a game with evey other race already surrounding every planet I go to. How did they get so make ships in the begining of the game.  I have to start out fighting from the start.   Is it possible to find a planet that doesn't have enemy ships around it...that I can claim without fighting.  Can I turn this feature off so we all start even?

Those are minor races, they are not the main enemy. If they were not there, you or your enemies could just spam colony ships and it just would be one big colony rush. The minor races and rogue ships prevent that.

In case it hasn't been made clear enough already, all those planets are NOT occupied by your enemies. The did NOT make "all those ships". The ships you're seeing are just local garrisons.

If your real enemies want to colonized that planet, they have to fight the locals just the same as you do.

It's 100% fair and even.

When you're first starting out, try colonizing asteroids before planets. The local defenses will be a lot less.

(And don't forget to build that free capitol ship, like Oolong said. ^_^)

Don't forget to pounce on your nearest enemy's weakened cap-ship after they've cleared out an ice or volcanic planet's garrison.
