New planet textures

New planet textures

OK spent last night creating about 35 new planet textures. now I want to be able to make new random planet textures for all the planets. I do not want to replace any of the originals. what I want to do is to add new textures for sins to choose when selecting a planet. for example there are currently 2 desert ,2 volcanic,2 terran,2ice, what i want to do is add more. so that there are more than 2 of each kind to choose from.

so if i were to add texture files to the textures folder. but name them Planetterran03-da.dds planetterran04-da.dds
ect for each kind . would sins even recognize them or do i need to add something else somewhere so sins now chooses the new additions.\

I hope to be able to have 8 ice,8volcanic,8terran,8desert choices

Ok, I see what you are doing. Select the area, COPY -> PASTE.

Then, with your new layer selected, go through the same process.

Edit: Screeny ;)

Edit2: Sh*t, ignore the right hand side, my background, haven't actually got dual monitor, but I have my monitor set to have 2 screens, so I can switch between them.

The donut is what you should get after applying the filter. You need to apply it *only* to the middle strip, which should be its own layer.

It's always possible that Photoshop 7 does polar coordinates differently than CS2, and is screwing up your results. Doubtful, but who knows? If this is the case, there's a 3rd-party plugin you can use to create the same effects called Flexify. It's a bit more complicated, though. ;)

Er, ok. Selected the middle band, pasted to new layer, filter, got a donut.

Resize it to fit over the poles?

I'm really sorry about how inept I'm being. Once I see it done right, I'll probably slap myself in the face...

No no no. You had it before the resize

We'll get there eventually :CONGRAT:

Just like my screen, that size, then move it so the 'hole' aligns over the pole 'area'.

Edit: Heres a screen. The red is the new layer, which you will delete after you have done your stuff. The background is the turquoise, thats what you edit to blend in with the donut.

Ah ha, lemme try that.

I commend you, you have the patience of a saint. This is why I'd never make it as a teacher. If I had a student like me, I'd kill them, then myself. ;)

Pah, I'm no teacher either. If the 'student' is willing to learn, then I could keep explaining it again and again. But when the 'student' gives up and doesn't take it seriously, or moans, I give up pretty quick. But you sir, I admire you persistence. I could go on for hours like this, not that I want to, but I'd still try.

As this question seemingly got lost in talking about textures.

Is their A main file in the Gameinfo folder that I need to add to before I add Entity files for my 4 planets.or will they just show ?I really just want them to be choices to populate random maps or that i could just change via text editing the galaxy file .

You simply need to add your new planets into the GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef file (its in the gameinfo directory)

this involves 3 steps

Step One, Create a new "orbitBodyType" entry for the Planet (see the existing ones for the format)

Step Two, Create a new "planetType" entry for the planet (again see the existing ones for the format)

Step Two and a Half, Add your new Planets into the various "Random" planetType entries

Step Three, update all the counts in any entries you have modded, so planetTypeCount, and the various orbitBodyTypeCount

Sorry about the tangent Terraziel...

Uzii, I still think I'm missing *something*. I'll send a PM, if you don't mind (so we don't cock up this thread anymore than we (I) have.

We're not really cocking anything up. I would have gone better in a new thread, but no matter. I answered the OP in one of my earlier posts, and he hasn't replied so I assumed he got it sorted.

And unfortunately, I'm off now. Just try and replicate the screens I have posted. The thing to remember is, you are not using the donut for anything more than visual alignment. The work you do will be on the unaltered background, in the Pole areas. Good luck, and remember, keep at it ;)

hey, i'm new at this forum, and your topic is just about what i was looking for: more planet varieties. if you ever acomplish that, could you create like a MOD or something, and make it possible for us to download, so we can get those different planet "skins" as well?

THANKS!
