New Player Question!

In the scenario I am playing there is an asteroid not too far from my home planet.  This asteroid has 2 other asteroids in its orbit.  One asteroid is Metal and the other is Crystal.  How can I get an LEV Construction Frigate to this asteroid so I can place the appropriate Extractors?

colonize the astroid.

You need to colonize the asteroid with a Colony ship(This is the ship in the lower left corner of your frigate factory screen.)

You can also colonize it with an Akkan Battlecruiser(TEC), a Mothership (Advent), or the vasari equivalent(Whoops, forgot. This is the middle capital ship, in the capital factory screen.)

Once you have colonized this planet or asteroid, a LEV construction frigate or it's equivalent will automatically appear. Also, increasing Logistical and Tactical slots on a planet/asteroid increases the amount of constructors available.

Welcome!

Later on you might find gas giants and asteroid fields that have metal and crystal asteroids, but unlike the big asteroid in your question, cannot be colonized.

For these, again use your colony ship (or your scout, if you're Vasari). The ship will take over the extractors directly, without colonizing and without building.

Have fun!

(Sykonaut, the Vasari colonizing capitol ship is the Jarrasul Evacuator.)

Yeah, couldn't remember.

Was trying to remember the individual colony ships, the Colony, the Missionary, and I didn't remember the vasari one. =) I almost said Migrator, but I was like "No, that's the scout."

It is a Migrator.

Navigator is the scout. ^_^

If it makes you feel any better, I have to look these up. I don't play Vasari.

Baaaah. I could've swore I saw a Migrator in a fight I had in a 1v1 I had today, so I assumed it was a scout.

Thanks everyone! Didn't know you could colonize an asteroid!

Yeah, you wouldn't really think about colonizing asteroids, but it is doable. They don't offer many planetary upgrades, but they are still effective as observational outposts and invasion speed bumps.

End of quote

Early they're great because you don't have to research any techs to colonize them, they give you a quick easy slot for a research outpost, and with 1 crystal and 1 metal asteroid, you can cheaply increase your metal income by 50% and your crystal income by 100%. Plus they're usually lightly defended by neutrals so they can be conquered quickly. Always a great choice for your first colony.

I second JamesP81's comment. Asteroids do make great expansion colonies at low cost and high yeild.
