Hello everyone, Please Help. I have never installed a screensaver without self install. I can't find how and where to go to get the .scr file screensaver into Display Properties list so it can be used on a consistant basis and not be removed when closing or shutting down. I know this can be done just not sure how. Can anyone help me? I am using XP Pro SP2. Trying to install Beach from here. Thanks

Thanks Bichur, I read that article, was very close by, and tried it. Works on install and the screensaver is listed in the Display Properties drop list but it is temporary and disappears if you close or shut down. Is this normal? I have never done this before so I am not sure. Seems there would be a way to keep it on the list?

Hi Bichur, I downloaded Beech1 into My Downloads. I tried unzipping and left clicking to open, right clicking to get pop up and "install". The SS opens and is in the Display Properties list and I can "apply" it but if I close or shut down and restart it is gone from the list. Any Ideas? Seems so simple.I know it is there and looks okay just can't get it to stick. Thanks

Bichur, not exactly. When I clicked "install" it immediately opened the SS as if on preview and when I moved cursor it closed. Then I checked Disply Properties and it was in the SS drop down list. As long as I do not change any settings, close, or restart it remains there but if any of those occur its out of the list and you must go through the procedure again. I tried another SS with the .scr extension and same thing happens. Can't find the file anywhere except in My Downloads where I saved it. I've got to be missing something. Read somewhere that it would be saved on C drive in file WINNT but I don't see that. Do you know where it might be? Any other ideas? Gosh I hate to let something like get me!

Did a search and found the file in C:\Documents and settings\Wade\My Documents\My Downloads The others that are in the list are at C:\WINDOWS\system32 and one at C:\WINDOWS. What should I do? Don't know why they are in three places.

C:\WINDOWS\system32
End of quote
This is where a .scr screensaver should be.

for the scr file to show in the display properties dialog it needs to be in 'c:\windows' or 'c:\windows/system32' folders.
They are the 'defaults' that the OS looks for...;)
If it's an installer screenie [exe file] it looks like it's not setting the reg correctly.
Just copy/paste the scr from your 'downloads' to the 'system32' one....;)
When you re-open display properties it'll show up.
/me moderates the screensaver section...so deals with the horrid things regularly.
Running the scr from 'downloads' [double click] will only set it going [you see it]....it won't install it...;)

Would have I fear if not for you guy's and your help and guidance. For some reason I never thought to do a search since it was there temporarily and disappeared. Had no Idea to see where other SS files were. Thats another one learned for me. Again, Thank you all very much. Glad I joined a nice group here at WC....
