My primary complaint: in my opinion, Impulse (and SDC) should not show the serial numbers for the user's products. It is far too easy for someone, at let's say a LAN party, to launch the application and write down all of a person's codes.

Then how are we supposed to know if we entered the right number if all we see is ********?

And second of all...you should NEVER leave your computer unattended without a password. It's your own fault if someone gets on there and goes through all your stuff. Not Stardock's or anyone else's.

I never said that while entering a serial number that it can't echo back. But to be able to pull up a list of serial numbers for all the world to see...not a good idea.

There's a reason that companies tell people to not write passwords down. Despite all good intentions, clever thieves can get to things. I've never been quite sure why Stardock chooses to have this stuff so easily available. I hate to compare it to Steam, but with that product, the serials are nowhere to be found. It's all stored on their servers (undoubtedly encrypted) and tied to your account.

I realize Stardock has to do things differently because of their DRM free software, but I don't see any reason why after serials are entered, they have to be continue to be available in plaintext. After entered, if it needs to somehow still reside on a PC for future use by SDC and Impulse, it should be stored in encrypted fashion so that it can't be easily compromised.

Installed, updated many applications (ObjectDock+, CursorFX+,...) and all seems to works fine withtout any problem with Vista Ultimate 32-bits.

Impulse > Very clean interface and very nice icon!

Impulse installed fine, updated itself fine.

I'll echo others in the thread...

History, Download and Archive need to be added.

Minor detail: It won't roll-up when rightclicking the titlebar

One of the first things I noticed....
There's also no system menu icon.

I'm also surprised to see so few options for Preferences. There's a lot more I can tweak with SDC.The application is looking modern, but right now it has a long way to go to properly compete. I appreciate the effort, but besides looks, I can't see what this is offering over SDC. Right now it seems to be a lot LESS powerful than SDC.

I think that Impulse is a far more "commercial" product than SDC.  It is less confusing to a new user and has the core functionality needed to get the ObjectDesktop Suite.  If some power features have to go for Stardock to stay at the top of their game for the apps served though Impulse I'm OK with it.

Hollow Man . . what features or tweaks do you think it's missing compared to SDC?  (assume IRC will come later ;))
I feel that it's missing customization options. If you go to the General settings of SDC, there's a whole bunch of options there that aren't in Impulse. Maybe most of it isn't the biggest deal, but Impulse just seems so barren in comparison. Of course, as you say, they may be going for making sure it's fairly easy for a new user to get into.

Personally I've never cared much for using IRC or a web browser in these sorts of products. I have other software for these needs that is designed for specifically for that purpose. Of course I do get that they want some sort of browser so you don't have to leave the application to buy a product.

Ultimately I just want something that can cleanly show me my apps, and give me tweaking options so I can resize and reshape to my heart's content. I'm probably not the target audience. To be honest, I only use SDC to update my applications. When I use them, I run them all without launching SDC.

You know what would be fun . . id Stardock gave us DX API to SDC/Impulse feeds and let us go to town making our own interface.  :)

Just kidding SD devs.

I personally couldn't disagree more. The advanced features could be added so the custom settings can be used (such as the picking the start menu location, viewing preferences, etc ). Taking away features is not progress and frankly, to abandon them for the sake of new users only is a real slap in the face to those that helped in this journey from long ago. ;) Stardock can still stay on top of the game without forgetting about the rest of us.

Very impressive and as I said before.......Stardock have come a long way  :)

I miss the version history and a release date additional to the version number. But I think this will be implemented in the final ? Other than that no problems at all. I really like it.

Wish:: To be able to resize.  Vertical that is. :)

So I just opened Impulse and it updated and I happened to go to the registrations page and noticed that it now shows Object Desktop with a new expiration date and also shows Object Desktop Ultimate with the expiration date that used to be on Object Desktop.

Does that sound right to the people in the know? :d

Just because we are used to something doesn't mean it's the best way.  I mean . . I recall wringing my hands when Component manager died.  (Not really)

Phoon/Hollow man . . why don't you start a new post with your ranked features of SDC that you don't want to lose and MORE IMPORTANTLY -- WHY.  Why it's good for the average user.  Why it's good for the power user.  Why it's good for Stardock.  Let's see who tags on and what SD thinks.

I'm not saying it'll go anywhere  but have you ever known a software developmetn company that cared or listened more to thier client base than Brad and company?   :CONGRAT:

I'm sure more settings are yet to come. There's no reason Impulse can't have an 'advanced user mode' (eventually), and I would not be OK with losing options. :p
Heck, I'm still upset about a couple of options I lost with WB5......... :(

Uhm....is there a reason I don't see CursorXP/FX anywhere? I bought CXP and have that installed, and thought CFX would at least be listed to download/install, but I don't see either.  :NOTSURE:
