Should I change my handle?

or; identity crises abound.

For years I have been San Chonino.

Years and years and years.  Since 2004, approximately.  In the link up top, it explains exactly how and when that name came to be.

Yet now I find myself in the midst of a possible identity crisis - a desire to change my online handle.

I know it would cause no end of confusion on this site, but I would surely maintain my same avatar for the forseeable future, to help identify myself under the new name.

I know that it would be weird to suddenly show up with a whole new nickname.

But San Chonino just feels like a wonderful part of my past.  And therein lies the problem - it feels like it belongs in that past it's such a wonderful part of.

In all recent things, I've been using the handle Ouroboros.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term, it's the symbol of a snake devouring its own tail - in short, the symbol for infinity, unending.

I've always thought it was a cool word, and it's become my Blogger name, as well as my name on all my IM programs.

Maybe this whole identity crisis thing blossoms from my being in Spain, but this is quickly becoming a phoenix-esque transformation in my life.  So I can't help but ask myself, do I rise anew from the ashes, baptized with a new moniker?

What do you think, JU?  Should I stay San Chonino and cling to that chunk of my past or should I embrace the future with the new handle of Ouroboros?

Pretty much up to you, but even if you do change it I'd still think of you as SC.

I have though about changing mine too.  I just stay locamama on the sites I was already locamama but I have a new name on new sites.  I say change it.  It's a cool name.  We'll still know who you are.  I still like sausage man.

There are times in people's life when they have to let go and move on, if this is that time for you, and it is because you've growned into the 'you' you want to be....go for it!

No. Why are you stealing your immaculately concepted child's name, SC? Why?

Every day he asks me to have his name changed to Junior. That way, he could really be Junior.

Nothing wrong with sticking with a single handle... I've been "Zoomba" for well over a decade now.

Not definitive enough, people.  Still can't decide.

Well, doesn't that settle it? Think of the children, SanCho. :)

Leave it San Chonino here.  No need to change it.  I have gone through similar periods, but have found that leaving the same identity at a particular site works best.

I think I've decided to stay San Chonino, but just change the avatar.

Thus, the "Just Hate Me" avatar. Keep posted for updates to the avatar regularly.

Aren't these great, BD?

Mate, as far as I'm concerned, it is completely up to you.  Having said this, I'm pleased you've decided to stay with San Chonino, even if just here.  As you said, a change might cause confusion amongst your regular readers who might not know you've changed your handle.  I, for one, wouldn't like to miss any of your posts.

I'm just glad you're here, regardless. :)
