Weapon types ?

I was wondering what the different weapon types do and if they affect certain types of units/buildings/sheilds differently. i cant really find anything on it.

i know alot of the weapons have special little bits that can be upgraded like phase missles and plasma weapons but do plasma weapons hurt strike craft/capitol ships/carriers/frigates the same? what about missiles. and what determines what can and cant hit strike craft.

Plasma
Laser
Beam
(Bolts/planet)

TEC:
Autocannon
Pulse Laser
Missle banks
(nuke/Planet)

Vasari:
Pulse beam
Plasma wave
Phase Missle
(cant find the name for the planet weapon)

is anyone has any definite answers let me know

the different weapon types exist only for the purposes of distinguishing them in the tech tree upgrade paths (and for visual variety as well i suppose).

the actual damage type a ship deals is not based on what its weapon system is called but on what the ship's type actually is. So a Missile shot from a Javelis Frigate does anti-medium type damage but a missile shot from a Marza Dreadnaught does capital ship type damage. They are both missiles though, so they are both upgraded from the missile line of upgrades in the Military tree.

any kind of weapon can target strike-craft but unless it is shot from a fighter squadron or a flak frigate it has a 90% chance to miss.
