Whats the formula for score?

I played a game on Normal, and acheieved a cultural victory on a small map (Normal diff) very quickly, and got a measly 70 odd points i beleive. I then played on a medium map on sub normal and got a military win, and only got 230 points.

I see some people getting 2000+ on medium maps? how come? Where does your score come from?

I too would like to understand the formula a little better. When I look at the metaverse scores, it appears that galaxy size is a rather large modulator. Also, it would be good to see difficulty level information in the metaverse score details.

Yes sadly i think it is too. I prefer a medium or Large map at most. I like games to last a day or two playing at most, and doubt i would ever have time to play a Gigantic map.

I noticed all the high scorer's play on Gigantic maps, and have scores 6 or 7 times people playing on medium or latge maps.

Look at it this way. If it takes 6-7 times as much time to finish a large map than a medium map, then why shouldn't their scores be 6-7 times higher?

Well, as long as the scores are being accumulated and not averaged...

Good point uruguru. The only thing I would add is that it then becomes important for stardock to make AI modifications based on the scores at each map size. Otherwise we'll end up with an AI tuned to gigantic map sizes only.

Fraid scores are not accumulated.

On the metaverse, your score equals

sum of individual scores / square root of number of games.

This heavily biases gigantic galaxies and makes ut very hard for anyone not playing gigantic galaxies to get a high score no matter how many games they play. Hopefully this will be changed.

A score 6-7 times higher suggests that the player with that score is 6-7 times better than the player with the lower score. Given that both players achieved the same outcome from the game (victory), this suggests that the player with the score 6-7 time higher had a 6-7 times HARDER game.

Just because something took longer doesn't make it harder. If I paint one of the fence posts in front of my house or one thousand of them, it doesn't change the fact that painting fence posts is incredibly easy -- just tedious and boring.

The metaverse scores should weight the AI difficulty more than the galaxy size, because that's what makes the game hard. IMHO, of course. I can understand there being points for larger games, having more people, researching more tech, etc... but the primary determinant of your score should be how difficult it was to achieve the result you did -- and that's based on the AI, not the galaxy size.

Well, Ash, I disagree. I get higher score because of several factors:

1) More time taken - I could have won or lost several small galaxy games in the time for a gigantic game

2) More at risk in this single attempt - I've staked everything in one gigantic game - while if you play a small galaxy, you get several chances to at least pick up one win.

Size should be recognized if nothing for the time factor

If you press the "menu" button on the main screen you will see at the bottom how close you are to reach the four diffrent types of victory.
The closer you are to winning all 4 the higher score you get.
I had:
89% culture victory, 92 % conquest, 50% Alliance and 100% tech when I won on a gigantic map on intelligent dificulty. I got about 3700 points I belive.
If you also have the strongest military, a very high amount of social projects contructed, this also add to the score,
My military on that map was about 4 times stronger than the civ that was second. (I had about 50 Overlords, 40 dreadnaughts and uncountable numbers of battleaxes, space stations, battleships and so on)
