Would you like to donate Rice?

I read about this site in a magazine article yesterday:

http://freerice.com/

For every word you match with its definition, the UN World Food program donates 20 grains of rice to countries in need.  So 20 grains isn't very much, but if you get very into it, your vocabulary prowess will help the program donate a decent amount.

There is really no "end" to the game, so you can decide when to stop.  Chris and I played for around 30 minutes and ended up with about 8,000 grains.  We didn't "cheat" (aka "google") either!

I say NO googling, but then again, for every word you get right, the donation does goes up. ;)

Doing it now...up to 2500 for the moment.

I think they're making up words here and there...I swear the SAT doesn't even have crap like these on them. :P Also, they're sneaking in Spanish and French...cheaters! Well, I don't mind the Spanish.

Luckily I can recognize roots and give a decent guess. :)

Well, I got lucky in that I know a decent amount of Spanish...or else I wouldn't have done that great. :P  I don't remember some of these on the SAT, either (although it's been a loooong time since I took it).

2500...pretty awewome, Zoo. :)

I've been playing this game for a while now.  It is remiss of me I didn't let my friends here know about it.  Did you know you can set up your options so it will remember the level you got to and how much rice you've donated everytime you got back to play?

I will admit there are some words that come up and I wonder which language they're from.  I've also noticed a number of medical terms as well.  Thankfully, I have an interest in etymology and can work out what most of the words mean.

What a simple yet very cool way to help those less fortunate.
