unclaimed extractors

when scout ships with auto take on for the unclaimed extractors come into a system that has one, they should stick around long enough to claim it :S

They will if you turn off autocast on your scouts' explore .

that's true, but I think that with scouts, you should just be able to set them, then set them loose..

But the advent and tec use colony ships to take neutral extractors and they need to micro it, so it's balanced that way.

I agree with baka_tare. Down with needless micro.

It's not "needless" at all. If I set autocast on my explore I want my scout to explore, not sit around dumping 40 antimatter in a neutral extractor system.

The only reasoning behind this that I can think of is it offset the microing required by the other 2 sides with their colony ships.

Be it that this defeats the advantage the vasari have or it makes it more fair is dependent on your view point or if you like playing as vasari or not.

-Edit- Anohter reason could be if you want your scouts to explore more then taking the mines which would apply if the enemy has a colony frigate left in the gravity well taking back the roid as soon as the scout leaves. Same situtation but with a trap for the scouts would be worse as you'd HAVE to micro your scouts to not try and capture the mine -edit-

In singleplayer at least, those extractors are hugely powerful. They're not affected by allegiance so you don't lose anything even if they're outside your culture on the other side of the map, and the AI hardly ever reclaims them once you've got them yourself. I've have four or five of them running on larger maps and it's given me economic superiority a lot faster.

if you want your scouts to not dump the antimatter into taking the extractor, then turn the autocast off on it.. if the autocast is on, it should try to take the extractor.. if the autofire is turned on, it should be a johnny jump up badass scout and attack stuff it encounters too ;) otherwise turn the autoexplore on, and the autoextract and autoattack off
