Autopilot Woes

Please look into this Devs.. pretty please? LOL

A simple option to turn OFF autopilot in the main menu would be SO nice, if no other autopilot option are going to be implemented.

The autopilot drives me nuts. If you finish moving a last ship without autopilot on.. ALL your autopilot ships then move.. even if I don't want them to. Also, if you double click on a ship with autopilot in the fleet list.. it moves. *grrrrrr*

What would be optimal imo, would be a button that when clicked, simply moves all ships with autopilot that haven't been manually moved to that point. Then they wouldn't go off on their merry way when I decide I want to change where I wanted a ship with autopilot 'on' to go. If you don't click the button, all ships with autopilot on move at the end of turn.. preferably *after* any ships you still need to move (if you've got that option on to not lose ship moves, and it brings them up at the end o turn).

But failing a button to choose when your autopilot ships move, just an option to turn off autopilot entirely would be nice for when you what to micromanage where your ships are going.

Another option if easier would be simply a button that when clicked, clears *all* ships of autopilot, if you want to start from scratch.

Anything would be great.. autopilot drives me nuts. (:(

ahh you mean you want a button that temporarily disables all autopilot which you could then turn back on? I would second that motion. I hate when I've got 30 on ap, then ooops war, need em in a different spot. hard to remember where exactly every ship on ap is. the disable button would be great.

And have you had that glitch where the ship on ap suddenly plays ring around the rosie for a turn or two, then continues? That gets annoying.

Because there is a button where you can turn off it showing the moves. When I have a ton of ships on autopilot, I do that. Speeds up gameplay tremendously.

I second or third the motion!

My variation would be to either make the button change state - i.e. while there are ships that have not auto-moved, it says "auto" (and would then move said ships), and if there aren't any, it says "turn" (and would then end your turn). Alternatively, I'd like a third button for automoving.

The behaviour FBF describes is indeed maddening.

hmm...I'll think about this.

In the meantime, if you bring up the tactical map (F9) you can assign autopilot destinations without them moving until you return to the starmap, so as long as you have autopilot lines turned on from the minimap, you'll be able to see where they're going.

The map grid is not visible from the F9 tactical view even if you zoom in close to the map though, which makes it difficult to coordinate precise ship movements through it.

Thanks CariElf, it would be muchly appreciated!!

I know you are probably incredibly busy, so thanks for considering it. It drives me nuts, especially in the later portions of the game, to try and keep my ships going where I *really* want them to go! :p
