Can't Trade Constructors?

I just noticed that constructors do not show up in the ships area of the trade screen. Does anyone know why they are not allowed to be traded or given away?

It was originally to prevent the Minor Races from receiving that type of ship (we were using a odd-ball meathod for minor ships where they only had 3 ship types, so if they got something they didnt have the game'd crash). I forget if this issue was kept in intentionally or not...but if nobody can think of a reason constructions shouldnt be traded, I'm sure it'd be easy to put back into the game.

I suppose the minors could be hardcoded not to use them as anything other than trade-goods, so sure... why not?

Just be careful about players purchasing AI constructors that just arrived at a resource. The AI has a habit of waiting for a second constructor before it will build a starbase, supposedly for a quick defense upgrade I think.

Za H brings up a good point. I'd be disinclined to allow purchase of constructors...its already pretty easy to take resources away from the AI without being able to do it before they even build a base.

I'm sure they'll just make constructors so overvalued the AIs won't part with them for anything less than all your star sytems, trade goods, technology, ships, cash, influence, and declaration of war on every object in the universe, which is about the same value they give to colony ships ;)

Yeah, the other reason that we didn't allow them to be traded was that you could cripple the AI by trading for their constructors right before they got to the resource.

We probably will have to do the same thing for constructors as we did for colony ships and transports if we put them back in the trade list.
