Noob Question

(please don't hurt me)

Hello, I've just started playing GalCiv2 with DA and i've played a few easy maps to get the hang of things. I've just started a new game large galaxy, occasional planets with the AI set with a mix of intelligent and genius, max opponents and max minors. I'm liking this setup and i've secured around 6 planets which is about 1 more than mostly everyone else except for those colony rushing Yor collective scum. I must say this is really starting to show me it's true colours as the game is quite tight on economy, which is great because in my easy games I was way too over powered.

I've read lots of suggestions and stragies on this forum and others regarding economy and i'll be putting some of those into effect, however I was wondering if anyone could answer something I couldn't find out. I have most of my planets on 80-90% loyalty except my main planet and one other which are both at 40%. How do I increase the loyalty for those planets? Ive tried putting influence bases right next to them but that has had little effect. I've also tried putting more entertainment on my planets but that also has had little effect. What negative effect to my planets and civilisation does low loyalty give? and what could i do for those 2 planets to make them patriots to my glorious cause.

Any suggestions would be great :)

Thanks!

Hi!
Your main problem is big pop on your HW, compared to other colonies. For more info on approval check wiki: Approval.

Are you talking about actual loyality, or do you mean approval? It sounds like you mean approval, which will be directly influenced NOT by starbases, but mainly by your tax rate. Researching the entertainment branch will increase morale/approval as well as allow you to build better entertainment centers, trade goods, and wonders. Higher population on planets = lower approval as overcrowding becomes a concern.

As far as I know. loyality and approval are not linked. Influence and loyality are linked, thats why planets flip and revolt. But unless your approval drops in the 30's or something, the morale has nothing to do with it.

One way some of us even out the morale/approval of our empire is to move the population off of one planet to another. If your homeworld is overpopulated, you can use a colonizer or transport to move the people from there to an underpopulated planet. Sometimes, having an even population distribution can make it easier to manage empire wide approval.

As mentioned above by Piznit, researching the morale techs can get you ahead there. Also, grab a morale resource or two, if you can. Add modules to it as your tech allows. The better your morale, the higher you can set your tax rate.

Make sure you don't build too many farms. They will add to your overpopulation problems. Populations of 20b or under are manageable. 13b is real easy.
