Took me awhile to figure this one out myself until I just started a match and experimented.

There is a technology for each race to research that allows jumping between star systems. You will need to research that.

Once you do, you can warp to any other star system on your map. Phase lanes aren't involved. The only limitation is that you must be in the actual star's gravity well to make the jump.

Every race has 2 techs for special jumps (Star and Wormhole). They'll be easy to understand since the description should be sufficient.

Oh, and I think you should know. When you want ships to jump to another star, they have to go to the star in the current system before jumping to another star. It's not a matter of sending a fleet to the edge of a system then telling the fleet to jump. Seems wierd, especially since you don't see phase lanes, but that's how it is. As for wormholes, also, no phase lanes. You don't know where they go until you use them. Plus, ships have to enter the wormhole by moving to the center of the grav well, unlike phase jumping.

The research button you are referring to is Long Range Jumps. It is in the Civilian Research Under the Engineering part. You need 3 civic research stations to research it.
