AI never captures extractors

Why doesn't the AI ever capture extractors?

I've noticed that the AI will never ever ever capture an extractor that isn't attached to a planet. Like the ones found in asteroid belts or gas giants or plasma storms. Anybody know why this is?

Stardock could you fix this but please?, Thanks...

Yeah, we've pointed that out to the devs a few times :)

They do capture them once in a blue moon, but they don't actively do it like players.

Can I capture an enemy's extractor while he owns a planet? That would be a great strategy for hurting resource operations.

No, the discussion is specifically about extractors around uncolonized planetoids (gas giants, space junk, asteroid belts, etc). The extractors built by players can't be captured like that ;)

I'm still confused about these things. Do they only 'work' if you have a refinery nearby?

Also, does a refinery improve the resource collection at populated planets as well? For instance if I have a refinery and there are only populated (my own) planets nearby.

No, they always work once you capture them. Their income is also higher than the extractors you build, and they aren't affected by allegiance so they always operate at 100%.

Refineries service extractors at the planet they're built, and all adjacent planets (one jump). I'm pretty sure neutral extractors get benefits from refineries also.

Yes they do, they also have a higher quota 0/4 instead of 0/3 like the ones a player builds. I have been playing a 10 ffa map and the only extractor I saw free was in my starting system, and only because that AI and I went at each other like mad wet cats right out of the box.

I love finding extractors like this, because they have higher income, cant be destroyed, and the AI almost never bothers with them. Also, it lets you see the whole gravity well, so you can see enemies there without putting any of your ships on the line for defending it!
