How does one capture isolated metal sources

On random maps I see gas giants and asteroid belts that are not colonizable, but they have metal sources (small asteroids?) that have the note that they "can be captured".

How does one do that?

For the TEC and Advent, you must build a colonizing frigate. For the Vasari, their scouts have the capture ability.

They need to because, without easy access to neutral extractors, they can't afford to build their ships in the early game, too expensive. :SNIFF!:

Also, you can re-capture nutral extractors that enemies may have captured. Of course, your enemy can capture YOUR extractors.
