noob's problem encountered

Hi,

Firstly I'll say thanks for making this great game and I've been reading through forums and you Stardock guys seem great so thanks for helping us with all this technical stuff (I'm really poor with computers but I hope you can help me too.

I was playing as the Iconians on a large map and was very far into the game, and when I was clicking on a planet or something checking on it (cant remember exactly what happened).

Unfortunately I didn't have SmartException installed wheh it happened - I just installed it now hoping I could e-mail you the debug.err, but I can't figure it out sorry.

Please give me some instructions so I can get the debug.err to you.  Also I bought expansion #1 and Twilight at the same time, going straight from galci2 to TA, and in TA in the campaign screen nothing shows up.  Is that normal?  If you have the patience, I'll give you my system info so you can tell me if it's decent enough to play this game reasonably well (sometimes Turns take up to 2 and a half minutes or the game temporarily freezes).  I'm wondering if there's something cheap/quick I can do to increase the quality of the running of this game.

Another extra thing:  I might get a new laptop in a few months as I've had this one for about 2 years now and it's not fantastic and I was wondering how I'd go about loading Galciv2 and the 2 expansions onto it, I have ordered hard copies of the latter two and I have a hard version of the original, but I'm worried I might make some rash mistake and lose these 3 great games (as I said I'm useless with computers so maybe I'm just being overcautious).

Thanks

SE writes crash reports, but the debug.err is written by the game every time you run it. You can find it in My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor. If you've run the game again since you had the problem though, it will have been overwritten. So next time you encounter an issue, copy the debug immediately before restarting the game.

Turns usually take long either due to big amounts of ships that need to be moved or due to the AI not having finished it's preparations while you did your turn.
The first doesn't really have a cure, I suggest bringing a book (I personally reread the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy when I am many years into a huge galaxy game, turns can take a while), the second could simply mean that you're not taking your time doing your turn, it might also be due to a very slow CPU, but this is normally not the case.
When turns pass, check if you see ships moving, if so, grab a book once it starts to take minutes. ;)

Using the registration codes that you got when you ordered this game from StarDock you will always be able to redownload the game using Stardock Central. Hold on to the codes and it'll be neigh impossible to lose this game. ;)

OK thanks for those two rapid responses!

In re-respone to the first, I saved the debug.err file in notepod so maybe I can send it to you somehow (the only way I know of is gd old copy 'n' paste but I heard Stardock isn't so keen on that)?

The last time I played the game it crashed again, and that's been "logged" in smartexception and I saved it in notepad. Please let me know how to get them to you. Thanks again.

(don't mind the prefabbed reply, it's got the info you need :))

Please install 'SmartException' from the free stuff section in Stardock Central. Make sure that SE is running and start your game as normal. If the game crashes it will generate an exception report that can be emailed to [email protected].

Include in/attached to the email:
+ A description of what you were doing at the time.
+ How to reproduce the crash (if possible).
+ A zipped save (if applicable).
+ The appropriate debug.err file.

The devs cannot help if you do not provide these details!
