Metaverse Submission problems

Metaverse Submission problems

As some of you have pointed out to us the Metaverse submissions have not been working for the last two days. The problem has been corrected and all the scores that were submitted were placed in a queue and I am currently processing that queue so your scores should show up shortly.

Sorry for the headaches.

Certainly. Some mods (and we aren't quite sure which ones) will prevent your game uploading. The only "safe" mods are those marked as approved by Stardock. We need a thread where people tell us which mods seem OK... or soemthing. (But you would be annoyed if you had a mod and later the score got thrown out because of it...)

Is there anyway to submit games after you have finished them? (ie, does it keep a record).
I often play laptop based so getting to a phone jack to connect to the internet is a race vs the battery.

Failing that I guess I should try and save the last few turns before winning and replay them while connected.

It seems like size does matter score-wise, but challenge-wise, it does not. It is as easy (or difficult) to finish a game on gigantic and tiny maps - it just takes longer on a large map. So I would not penalize those with little time at hand by giving them lower scores. Scores should be generated in relation to the galaxy size, everything else is unfair.

Is this still occurring for others? I've tried repeatedly to submit a game completed on 5/11, but it has never shown up.

my whopping score of 800 never showed up. I played my first game on beginner on a gigantic map to get the feel of the game and only got 800 points. I'm now on challenging on a gigantic map. hoping to score better and hoping the score might show up this time.

FYI for the troubleshooters. I played a game through with version 1.04[b] and submitted and the score has not shown up. I don't mind so much because I didn't score too highly. I think this was 2-3 days ago. I was getting successful submissions in 1.02[something]. I never completed a game using version 1.03[something], so I don't know how that would have gone.

Everytime I upgrade I totally clear out my save game area because I had an apparent Metaverse overwrite happen with an early version and I've been afraid that save games don't totally replace. Anyway, I did this for 1.04 as well.

To Cari, or Frogboy or whomever. I got a score of 5200 that posted as an anomoly and gave me zero. Where do I send my final board and explanation of its legitimacy.? Also, I heard after the fact that the Universalist party is broken on my version and produces that. If that's the case, then at minimum, the zero should be removed. It goes without saying I'd like my 5200 back.

Has anyone noticed the problem where your score is submitted but not fully tallied? I mean when I submitt a score of 1338 and my score increases from 1236 too only 1778 (approx.). This has happened with the last 4 games I submitted. Is there some sort of scoring curb that is being used? I really like the idea of the Metaverse but it seems broken to me. How does the scoring work exactly with the Metaverse? I belong too an Empire and the same thing is happening with their scores. I always thought the scores were all tallied together? Anyone else have this same problem? How many who have had this problem think it is a fair one? Seems to me that we need another avenue for posting High Scores?!? :notsure: >:( :(

While I like the Metaverse concept, I really don't think it has been implemented very well. :( No one seems to be able to understand why we get the scores that we do, what our overall score means vs. our individual game scores, etc. Having a high scores list doesn't count for much if we don't know what the scores represent. It'd really be great if Stardock could give us at least a moderately detailed explanation of the scoring system.

Ok, just finished another game yesterday and the score has not posted either. So my last two scores have not posted, one from over a week ago.

Any update on this issue?

Fox. Scores aren't completely additive ie x + y + Z

Its something like the total of scores divided by the square root of the games played That's why your score isn't going up by the full amount of your scores each time and may even for a time go down with a score post.

I hear there are adjustments coming as to scoring but really don't understand them all that well. I don't think we're really supposed to understand them all that well though. :)

This is getting so frustrating.

Out of a total of 20 games I have submitted over 2 months, just 3 are showing. It works, then doesn't anymore, then again, then not. A shame for a company so focussed on the internet to have implemented such a poor software.

I wouldn't go that far Northwest Smith. Come on, the Metaverse is just a little add-on scoring latter. While I certainly would like my games to be posted, it definately doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the game.

Well, the lack of score posting is annoying me. I was working hard to help my empire get back in the top 10, and now my scores don't even seem to post. :sniff!: >:(

My website is going ahead with the HOF project. For anyone interested I will post when the Beta will be ready. We will need some testers for a bit to make sure it works correctly. Seems a shame to not be able to submit your score sometimes, and then it is done with some "unknown" formula. Without MP ability the Metaverse (HOF) is the next good option for competition. Our CDG programmer has already started work on the Hall of Fame for GC. :HOT:

Northwest Smith:  It appears your scores are posting now as I see several scores listed under your account.  Let me know if you are still having difficulties posting you scores.

bonoscott and anlashok1: what version of Galciv are you using?  In earlier versions of GalCiv there were some bugs with the submission code.  If you have the latest version you should be all set.  If you are still having problems posting your scores please let me know the date and time you post a score as that will help me look up the raw data that I receive from your submission.

Just tried to post a game about 5 minutes ago that did not go through. It was a Crippling Huge game, with a win via Beyond Human, on GalCiv version 1.03A.057. I tried posting it about a week ago and it never showed up, and just tried again and it doesn't appear to be there.

T-Man,

Thank you for your answer. Yes, it looks like it is working again. Last two scores posted without any problem, although I have no explanation why.

Any idea how difficult it would be to display some kind of status message (success/failure/reason for failure) when someone submits a score to the metaverse? I think that would be greatly helpful to track all those issues, both client and server-side.

Pykaige,  I did a search through my raw data and I am not seeing anything from you.  So it sounds like there is a possibility that the problem is from the game itself and not the server.  Since I handle the server portion I'm going to defer this problem over to Cari.  If I may suggest send your saved game to Cari at [email protected] and ask her to look into from the client point of view.

NorthwestSmith,  from the server side of things its not a problem but from the game end, I'm not sure what it would take from them to process a return message and display something back to the user.

T-Man, thanks much for your help with this. Given that info, I managed to track down what appears to be an errant issue with my firewall, which somehow decided that it didn't like GalCiv anymore. I guess I'll know better from now on; thanks again for the help!

Currently the submit code only returns true or false, so I can pop up a message if it returns FALSE.  But that doesn't really tell me anything.  I'll ask the person who wrote the submission code if it can be modified to return various error codes, if that's even applicable. I don't know under what conditions it would fail.

Help. I just submitted a game to Metaverse and it didn't take it although the Communicatiom between the game submit and metaverse looked fine. I should have 9 games but it stil shows me with 8. This was an Alliance Victory on a huge map. Please advice if you can get it on Metaverse or if I will have to replay it from he last autosave. Please fix the inconsistancies with Metaverse. It's a real bummer when you finish a very long game and can't see the results in Metaverse. Thanks. It's still the best game I ever played. :)

I have submitted 3 games AFTER I registered, I was online at the time I submitted them and should have a score of 14+26+56=96, but I don't show up at all anywhere in the Metaverse!!! How long will it be before these show up in the Metaverse? What good is it to have a "feature" that you "hype" when it doesn't work? Please fix it ASAP or before! :( (:(

If you finish a game while your Internet connection is down or Drengin.net is down, GalCiv should say "Do you want to save this result and submit it later?" Then, next time you restart, you should be prompted "Do you want to submit these results? Save them? Delete them?"

I was surprised to see this was not the default behavior. I save my games just before the end, in case there's a submission problem.
