Honestly, I’m not sure X-Fire has inbuilt recognition for the Sins multiplayer code, yet. It’ll certainly recognize you’re playing the game but the hooks for pulling the MP IP and such from it are not present, far as I can tell.

The best way I’ve discovered to play MP with friends is by using Hamachi, which provides a local-equivalent VPN. It looks like you’re on a LAN to all the other computers you have in your Hamachi Network. Install Hamachi, have your friend do so, too, create a personal network, have them join it and voila. You can then create a LAN Multiplayer game in Sins and your friend can join it by telling Sins to look on the IP you’ve received for your Hamachi network.

My crew and I regularly use Hamachi to do so because we really don’t need the hassle of the ICO community, despite the obvious advantages in record-keeping. Interestingly, none of us, with our varied makes, models and hardware levels of systems have had a single “mini-dump” some other posters are so vocal about. Go fig.

If you need further help figuring things out, just let me know or post to the thread; I’m sure someone here can help you.

To my knowledge, XFire hasn't supported quickjoining any kind of RTS game or creating some kind of network for any kind game. Hamachi's a great tool for the latter.

...I just wish my friends were as good as it. They always leave 1/4 of the way or half-way into the game and we rarely accomplish much of anything.
I'd find new friends, but I doubt any of the people I'd meet are RPers.

It does support quickjoining Call of Duty 4, though, which is about the only reason I know anything about Xfire operations; without it, trying to play CoD4 with your friends is a painful, agonizing, ridiculous proposition fraught with suffering and emptiness.

Did I mention it’s a pain?

I have a good crew for gaming, truthfully. Pretty much every night we’re banging at something. The other folk are really hooked on CoD4, currently, but we get in regular Guild Wars and other things. My preference right now is Sins, since it’s becoming horrifyingly obvious that I don’t have the reaction time of a 12 year old anymore. I need something where my twitch nerves are less useful than my planning nerves. [grin]
