How do I control population growth?

It seems I that my population grows way too fast! :(
My morale plumments and I go into debt! (:(

I create colony ships and ship them off to the other planets... but then they grow way too fast also! >:(

Soon I will run out of planets to colonize (gigantic/abdundant), unless I invade other planets... but my military is weak at this time and that seems to only delay the inevitable... :notsure:

Is there a research technology of governmental birth control?

Haven't they heard of prophylactics? :p

As long as your morale stays above 50% you'll be fine. In the early game crank your military spending all the way up to push out colony ships to grab as many planets as you can.

Yeah, you can get into trouble if you view morale in GalCiv like it is in other games. What Andre said is right, because what happens is anytime your morale is above 50%-54% or so your population will grow and your morale will decrease some. This will continue until you bottom out around 50%-54%. So having morale in that area is perfectly natural for a population-stabilized planet.

Note that this means that the real effect of +morale tech/buildings/traits is to raise the max population value for your worlds, because as noted above anything that raises morale causes population growth until morale reaches baseline again.

As a side note, population grows at double rate with morale at 100%, so that is a good way to raise your population quickly (which is one of the tricks the computer uses to grow pop so fast).

Here's what you do, Runne.

This is a little program I call Hostile Anti-social Personality Permanent partY - or H.A.P.P.Y.
for short.

You send out over the Entertainment and News Networks that you're going to hold a planet-wide news conference and every dissenter will get a voice. Then park a colony ship or a combat transport ship outside your office. Have them all get inside the ship (for the conference) and then send them off into space. Detonate the colony ship, shown live on the Entertainment and News Networks of course, or send the military transport directly into fattest Drengen planet you can find. (also filmed live and broadcast)

POOF! The rest of your citizens on that planet will show 100% morale. Lather. Rinse. Repeat as necessary.

(old cheese is just using a colony ship to drain off excess dissention and then detonating the ship. The story just helps me justify doing it. )

Also, get the 1.03 patch as it's more lenient on larger populations.

Thanks for the info! :) (This is one of the things that *SHOULD* be documented, because, if the Ai uses it, the player should know about it. Fair is fair!)

Mao did something very much along this line, the "1000 Flowers" campaign, first encouraging dissidents to come out, then sending them off to camps.

Tactics such as these will get you into good standing at G.R.O.S.S.; talents like you are exactly what we want to attract. Join GROSS! :)
