Map editor question

Anyone figure out a way to tell the editor you want more then 1 custom race?  My game has my race and 3 others that are custom... but I can't use my created maps because I can only place 1 custom race in it.

I know what you mean. I think that you will have to edit the map file itself in something like notepad or word. I'm hoping that someone from stardock can answer this question as to what TO edit! You will probably have to define the race by name in the map file. I don't know if you would add it to the existing races at the beginning or if they should replace that specific race. Maybe by editing the race file itself to have the game recognize it as a 'game customized' race? That would probably be the best way to go.

The game is not really made to handle more than one "custom" race (raceid 12) at a time. So in order to get multiples in, you'd need to mod the RaceConfig.xml and/or replace the core races.

Funny you say that, Kyro. That's sorta what I did. In the opponent set-up screen I'd click on one of the core races and changed them to my race. The result is that they are linked. FOr instance, the Merchant Consortium where made off of the Korx... if I add the Korx the MC vanishes from the options, if I had the MC then the Korx vanish. It's a pretty good work around.

Which reminds me - how come every default races (when selected as custom) gets to have a saved file *.raceconfigxml in the usual /my../.root./ folder?

A little confusing at first... but if i were to keep those in and even edit the values & resave the new file, wouldn't that cause a conflict of any kind IF the "still-yet-to-select" opponents coincide?

Puzzling, if anything! :)

@Zyxpsilon that's so you can edit the color schemes of those races and the game will keep a copy of it in your directory for use in later games.
