Windows Desktop Manager issue

Windows Desktop Manager issue

need help it says it is started but still deskscape says something weird

Hello,

I downloaded and installed everything correctly and successfully, but for some reason, when i go to the desktop background and then to Deskscape animated wallpapers, i click on one and it says "the desktop window manager is not running, deskscape requires the desktop window manager (uxsms) service to be running to function" so i check the service in services.msc, but it says its started and automatic, but the service is called " Desktop window manager session manager" is that the same? please help i want this to work, it would be great. Thank you in advance.

Can someone upload or give the download link of 2.0.055. The new version is also giving me same problem."Windows Desktop Manager" not running. But in fact its running.

Make sure "Windows aero" is highlighted then apply.

Vista Home Basic does NOT have aero.DeskScapes runs on my machine without it.It has worked fine since install, with no additional codecs or settings needed.Whatever settings it IS using with v2.00.055 is being changed with v2.00.058,causing this error. :NOTSURE:
I can re-update once more and send any files, logs or reports with .058 installed,if you think it will help.Otherwise,I'll keep what I have.(It works)Please let me know, here or in a PM.

Once more...

I have Vista Basic and Vista Standard ONLY, no aero.Vista Home Basic does not support Aero.WB config keeps reminding me of that fact.

Your using the registered version that works with all versions of Vista so you do not need Aero or Dreamscenes for DeskScapes to run.

Until I update to v2.00.058 that is.Then all of a sudden*poof*,it no longer works on Vista Home Basic. I'll be damned if I'm going to buy Vista Home Premium or Ultimate just to run DeskScapes.I'm no PC tech, but I've done my share of diagnostics elsewhere, and I know broken is broken. ;p

My options are:
Wait:doing that now for well over 6 weeks.Meanwhile,my subs clock keeps ticking:SNIFF!:

Give up:uninstall DeskScapes. As much as I like them, I don't want something Stardock can't fix on my system,I'm not smart enough to fix them on my own.X-(

Work with support:since I'm willing to help and can reproduce this. They have my ticket and e-mail address. :D

If I don't get a reply,I'm down to one of those. (:( but for now,I'm waiting.....

SIX WEEKS?? Better ask them for an update.

One other option: I consider this my one stable build, which is all I bought, after all.I will just bear in mind that future versions will not work with Vista Home Basic. Aero is required, forcing an upgrade to Home Premium or better.Oh,wait... even that's not working properly with WindowBlinds applied. :NOTSURE:

If you have auto-archive turned on, you shoud still have 2.0.055 on your PC.

I do,but it was easier for me to create a restore point, try the update(now 3 times) and restore back when it didn't work.I've never used the archives to restore anything.I'm sure I'll loose .055 forever someday,so I'm not going to try repeatedly to make .058 work.I offered,I got no response,I tried the update again with the same results.Time to move on.

[EDIT] Since the release of version 2.50,DeskScapes has been working fine on my system.Thank you,Stardock!

This will fix all of these issues.Right click goto "personalize" then goto "Window color and appearance"Then click on "Open classic appearance properties for more color option" at bottomMake sure "Windows aero" is highlighted then apply.Goto the desktop background and try the deskscape should work.Let me know

I did all the but the described above problem remains. Only when I apply default vista theme (Aero) in windowblinds everything is ok (i.e. no error message). But when I am running other windowblinds theme, it is impossible to set aero color scheme (through personalize), because it returns to standard all the time, and because of that i am getting error message saying Desktop window manager is not running (even if it is running perfectly) at PC startup.

Humm, I just ran into this bug this morning. I had decided to buy the Blissful dream and everything "seemed" fine. I am using the Areo theme on Vista x64. Anyway my screensaver was running and then all of a sudden the screensaver was interupted and that took me back to my desktop where I had the pop up about the service not running. Launched Services and the service was listed as Automatic and running.

Figures all the free Dreams I've used, like the rotating earth Dynamic Theme, haven't had this issue and the one time I buy a theme it acts up

Any word on an update? I downloaded another Dream that does changes based ont the time of day and its also giving me the dang error mssg even though the service is running. Having actually paid money for the one dream and having this problem is kind of annoying:annoyed:

I have Vista BASIC (NO AREO), every so often(usualy 5-10 days) the dream will all of a sudden stop like its paused or something..... all i have to do is >>>

click start

in the search box type "services" hit enter

click in the main window of services

scroll down to "desktop window manager session manager"

right click it and click on resart

then go back to deskscapes and pick your dream

THAT WORKS FOR ME,...HOPE IT HELPS

Hi!  Ok, I checked my Impulse and for some reason I have both deskscapes (free and registered) showing.  I tried to uninstall the free one but it says files needed to uninstall not available.  And when I right click on the registered version and try to run it I still get the Desktop Window Manager message.  Grrr.  Help please?  I am on Vista Ultimate and I have OD Ultimate also if that helps.  It shows as version 2.5 of deskscapes.

What version of Deskscapes are you using and under which OS?

That sounds like an error that you might get running Deskscapes 2 on Windows 7.

Yes, we see them.  The problem is there's nothing we can really do to make sure you're running dwm other than check for it and give an error when it's not running.  Common issues are not having your Windows Experience Rating updated, disabling the Aero theme, disabling desktop composition in visual effects options, having another application running that shuts down dwm, and as Neil said, running DeskScapes 2 on Windows 7 (which will produce this error regardless of the above being set correctly).

After reading Shirley's post (and having a bit of British thinking).
If you go into WindowBlinds and select the Vista Aero theme from it then Deskscapes will work.
Then you can change back to the WindowBlinds theme you were using and Deskscapes will keep the .dream running.
If you want to change the .dream you will need to change WindowBlinds back to Aero theme.

 For helpful purposes I'm using:
Vista Home Basic.
WindowBlinds 7.01 (235).
Deskscapes 3.
