Gave away all systems but one and MetaVerse score exactly the same

With one turn remaining on a Tech Victory, I had 30-40 colonies and a population of 1800 Billion. So, I gave away all my systems but Sol and kept researching along. When I won the game a few months later, my MetaVerse points were the same (+/- a point or two) of my score with 40 planets and a population of 1800 Billion.

I assume/know the game is averaging out income/population for the entire game. So, my final number of planets, population, tax, etc doesn't really impact the game as much as the average over the entire game. Still... I found this fairly interesting.
