Alliance without alliance tech

Right off the bat the torians and the altarians are buddy-buddy, alliance style. I know for sure they didnt have alliance tech yet. Whats that all about?

you can't ally without the tech. I was joking about the cheating part, it's probably just a bug- the game didn't pass a checkflag before letting two close aliens naturally ally with each other, is my guess.

I meant you're not SUPPOSED to be able to, but obviously the AI is able to. I'm sure this'll be fixed in thenext major patch release, it seems like a simple checking error.

IMHO, it's a bigger problem than it seems at first. It severely pushes the game off-balance early on if you're rapidly going for conquest victory because you might find yourself fighting an alliance way too early. A friend of mine had such a situation yesterday about 2 years into a game when the Alatrians declared war on him and the Arceans joined right in.

Hidden support is one thing, open warfare is another. This one badly needs a fix.

Last night, I had a situation in which I went to war with the Torians in exchange for the Drengin's economy for a chunk of time. After the Torians sued for peace and I refused, the Arcean and Altairian empires declared war because they were the Torian's allies, and no one had alliance tech at that point.

It didn't make much difference, since the two other races had to fight through the Drengin to get to me, and that kept them distracted (that and already being at war with the Drengin).

Anyway, I sued for peace in exchange for *their* economies later. :) Okay, not their whole economy, but enough of a chunk to push manufacturing ahead of everyone else.
