how are they a sinful society of deviance

They seem to have a religous aura around them. I dont get how they are the sinful society mentioned in the lore.

Well.
Look at Spartans of Ancient greece.

Everyone agrees pedophiles are bad and sinful correct?

If you were a Spartan you were a pedophile.. part of the training was to bond with a younger boy/girl and have a sexual relationship for bonding with them along with teaching them the ways of war etc.

If they were around today they would be decried by internatonal humanright courts... people would want them invaded and there "disgusting" ways stoped.

Meanwhile they would look at the western wold and our lack of practice of infantcide and declare we are evil(letting those who are disabled live when they should be put down is inhuman and obviously the acts of a disgustingly evil society)

Right and wrong in internatioanl politics doesnt come down to whats right and wrong.
Its what the minority with the majority of force want, and what the majority with the minority of force want and can get away with.

DrathKar speaks well, although I must admit I believe there is something that determines a universal set of morals (education/knowledge!).

Also, maheshjr2004, just because they are religious doesn't make them good. IMO, the religious fanatics on this planet are the worst kind of people around.

In my opinion, with the limited background story given, I'm guessing that there was less of an issue of good vs. evil as much as unreconcilable differences caused by human gregarity and our islandlike nature.

It's just the very issue of 'cultural relativism' that Drath explained so eloquently. If you grow up in a society where it's 'ok' to shoot your neighbor if he does something you don't like, where force rules, and only the strong survive, you will not consider this wrong - you will consider this the nature of Everything.

Only when exposed to something different can you be different - otherwise, only in very rare circumstances do people deviate from the acceptable norms to achieve something that may be looked at from PR-0927's 'universal good' point of view as better.

And often times such people, divine or not, die on crosses.

So, in all probability, did the Advent get wronged in the past? Yes. Were they probably evil? Maybe or maybe not, but there was probably a better alternative. Are they wrong now in interposing the sins of the father onto the great-great-great...>x50... grandson? Definitely. Hopefully, if they DO beat the TEC in the end, they don't cast the people away into space. They'll just be dooming their own descendants, 1000 years down the road, to a senseless campaign of revenge. ;)

Incognito has it. If you look at it, the TEC *NUKE* everything, making THEM the truly evil race. The Advent use mind control and propaganda and the Vasari enslave everyone, but their subjugants still live at least.

The history books are always written by the victor, and there are some pretty sinful stuff in our own human history that wasn't an ethical problem at all until someone conquered that faction or culture and decided the losers' way of thinking was "evil".

simply put, what the advent think is right is wrong in the eves of the TEC and visa versa. There is nothing that everybody will find morally right because everyone has there own idea of things. No one can force everyone to mold to their views of right and wrong.

Drath put it better, but I felt like putting in my two cents.

Religious = Not sinful? HA!

If anything, the Advent are the most twisted and mad race of all. They don't just dominate over your life or labor, but your very soul. I have seen men, good men who have become mere shadows, forced to maim and butcher themselves at the control of those demons.

Lock this heretic up! The TEC empire will show no quarter to your bewitched kind.
