Help me get the most out of this...

...please

I will keep it short and hope that it is enough to get a good answer without annoying too many people...

My roomate and I want to play an EPIC (talking weeks here) battle in SoaSE.

What is the best way to do so?

We tried creating a battle using the HUGE RANDOM MAP and had 6 players on 3 teams (me/him vs. CPU/CPU vs. CPU/CPU). Upon entering the game, one team lost both of its players instantly and for no apparent reason.

Now we are stuck fighting 2 players on the same team in a galaxy that is like 102 planets (5 stars) big.

My questions are as follows... Should we continue with this, due to the fact that it will still be epic like we want? We dont care about the number of opponents as much as we care about having large battles that take a while to build and put into play. (currently it looks like we will need to take over our entire Star System and then prepare to move onto another one and start hunting, which sounds good, but being new, I dont know if it is as good in real life as it sounds on paper).

Or should we scrap it and try again? If so , are there any suggestions based on what i have said that anyone can make?

That happens a lot on 1.0.

It has never happened to me on 1.03+, so update.

How long do you have each day?

My friend and I can clear a Huge Random Map with 5 Star Systems in a few hours.

You could try making a custom map with like 15-20 Star Systems and 1 player per his own star system with the AI at Hard... But I dont know if there is a hard limit to the number of planets possible.

Please keep in mind that if you choose to update your previous saved game will no longer be playable. You should consider updating as the game is much improved.

and yes, take over your entire star first, maybe garrison at your star, build static defenses on each planet connected to your star, including the pirate planet while moving on to the next star. Look for a planet you can take over in the new system and build at least 2 frigate factories and alot of culture.

I find a single star huge to be harder than multi-star huge. If you really want epic, you need to make your own map. The 100ish planets around a single star isn't very realistic, but 10 around a single star is pretty easy to wipe out and consolidate. If you bump it up to around 20 a star, you can get some very entertaining wars going. The small systems are just too easy to squish with a single fleet.

Also, if you're looking for a real blood bath on both sides, avoid playing as advent. When it comes to the AI, there is a severe lack of killing power against a well made advent steam roller. You can almost stop building ships entirely. They also don't handle advent defense as well, and the culture cannon makes conquest instant instead of needing to wait for the bleed.

I made a map designer 15 star map. Now that was fun.

For a good time, try making a map with Galaxy Forge...you figure out exactly where each planet goes, that kind of planet it is, and what it connects to.

You want to talk huge? I made a 92 star system with 816 planet's... Now that's a long game.
