Having the AI play itself?

In some of my older "take over the universe' games, I had the fun option to have the game play itself.  And before you ask, yes, it was fun:  I enjoy just watching how empires develop over time without having to run my own sometimes.

So, I was wondering if their was any way to make the game remove me as a player, and run 9 or 10 AIs with me able to watch the  entire game and all of the 'players'?

And excellent game, by the way.  It absolutly devours my time.

the only way i know this is to enter a game, then surrender and say keep playing. it will remove you from the game and let the other players keep going.
the only thing is i'm not sure how much it will show you map-wise. the only way to get the full map is to go into the custom map creator and select preview map. there is a slight chance you won't get picked to play but the others if they do load will start to fight and you can see the whole thing.
