Stardock Install/Archive Problem

Purchased the game, Download Only:

I uninstalled to reinstall to hard drive with enough capasity for updates (Stardock Install settings were set to not ask where to install).

The problem, Every time I try to Install the game, it starts downloading in AGAIN! Tried to restore, found my files, it now saz it is in the install que, Where is this que? Well, the que never finishes, and the only way I can work the install semes to be to download again (56k modef from Australia :( ).

Please direct me as to HOW it is possible to ake this backupCD, I do not want to keep on downloading the game every time I must reinstall it.

Will I be able to create a game CD, one that I can install with Independent of internett connection???

I have a feeling this is a great game, thats why I bought it, but I have yet to find it out for myselfe, cuz of stardock (the program) problems.

I purchased a hard copy game, so I don't have first hand experience here, but I believe you just open SDC, right click on GalCiv under the Software -> Drengin.net tab and select the "Download and Archive" function. Supposedly this downloads the game into a neat file for you to burn onto a CD later. Have you tried doing that yet?

Yes, the problem is that Stardock do not recognize its own achived files in the Backup directory, the program put them there itselfe after completed download. When i then try and install through stardock, it downloads it again.

I remedied this program by unzipping the files from the backupdirectory to the download tem directory, and this worked, stardock recognized the files and skipped download. I do not thin this is how it is supposed to work. I were promised a no lesser experience buing it online, and I am not giving up, but so far I can not create a decent backup CD. And I would very much like to know how to install to a computer without internett.

However, the game is just great, It's just me and the stardock program that dont seem to get along ;)

1) Use the "Download and Archive" option and then burn the generated zip file (which should appear in the directory "Stardock/SDCentral/BACKUP") to CD.

2) Make sure SDC is installed on the drive you are intending to use (it doesn't need an internet connection).

3) Copy your archive file to the "BACKUP" folder in the SDC directory on the new drive.

4) Open SDC and choose "File>Archive>Restore Existing..." and you will get a list of available archives to install from.

Thank you Scowler, you described it perfectly.

I followed your instructions, and when I do the step #4 NOTHING happens! If I do it again, a messages says it is allready in the install que. Still nothing happens, and I see no que. (Note: GalCiv downloads does not show up under drengin.net like it does on the computer w/ internett con.)

I will uninstall all and try again :notsure:

fedayeen: I tried uninstalling and reinstalling my copy a couple of times this afternoon using my update archives and the method posted above and had no problems.

Have you tried uninstalling SDC, making sure both the SDC and Strategy First/GalCiv directories have been fully deleted, and then restarting the computer and reinstalling SDC so as to ensure any potentially troublesome SDC manager files (or any other temp files)have been removed? Possibly some relic from a previous installation attempt is causing the trouble.

The only other suggestion I can make (and if you are on a 56k modem you will hate me for it :) ) is to download the all-in-one 500MB zip file and use that to install - this is what I originally used to put the game on my internet-disconnected PC.

I've had the process that Scowler described work perfectly.

You'll probably want to kick yourself (or me for pointing it out), but you didn't need to uninstall the game to be able to move it. GalCiv is very forgiving about that sort of thing! It can be moved about and played as you see fit. I've got 2 copies on my hard drive at the moment (one's the beta of 1.04, I'm gonna play a game later on). All you then have to do is search through the registry and change the setting for the Galciv install path that SDC needs, so it know's where it's been put!

Hope the uninstall SDC thing worked! :)
