Shit happens

shit happens
we all know it
for some of us from foreign lands
here at home
shit takes a number and waits in line
it floats in the bowl no matter how many
times you flush

willie mae 82 three floors down
keeps a running poker game 12 to 12 Thursdays, Fridays and
Saturdays
she takes a cut of the pot to keep the drinks fresh
and a little for her time and efforts

when shit happens she calls me to come down
to straighten things out
usually it’s just big talk from little guys
a long walk and a couple of smokes makes
it all good

but three floors down
shit happened
sometime two nights ago
in the dark in the
smoky aftermath she made her last
contrition, sighed and died smoking
a hand rolled cigarette

shit happens
death happens and it all keeps moving
forward
the missionary baptist church gave her
a jubilant service with seven kinds of soul
there was a picture of her taped to a cardboard
sign
she was a lot younger then
but shit happens
she got old and old got her

it waited for her a long time.

New to this site, so dunno if this is just a poem or a real event - seems harsh to say so, but I hope it's the latter = purely because it made me "feel for" the departed person.

it is both--what you read is what you get.
