So, uh, question.

I never actually modded anything, and I've been reading several tutorials. It seems simple enough with script editing and all. However, I see to have encounted a problem that left me confounded. I don't seem to have a Mod folder. Am I supposed to create one, or was it supposed to be there? I know I didn't delete it. Also, I went into Options in the game to see where my Mods were to be uploaded at. The game uploads from a file that doesn't exist on my computer. I'm using Vista, and I don't have anything that resembles where my Mod folder is supposed to be. My GalCiv2 folder is located in: C:\Users\margaret\Documents\My Games\GalCiv2. (Margaret is my mom's name. It's her computer, so stfu.) So anyway, there is no Mod folder. Do I create one? Then do I have to C&P a bunch of sub-folders into it? More importantly, how do I get the game to upload Mods from that folder? That's really the problem. The game wants to upload from some location that I don't have. I think it wants C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar\Mods. Not only is everything not located in Program Files, but I also don't have a Stardock\TotalGaming section. At all. Is there anyway I can change where the game uploads Mods? Since I apparently can't in the game. It won't let me.

So, help a lost newbie.

The game is stored in two directories. The one you know, and the one that you say doesn't exist. It does. /Program Files/ is hidden by default. Show hidden files.

Folder Options -> View -> Advanced Settings -> Show hidden files and folders

I got nothing. DX

Here's a screenshot.

Mods would not be found there. The only stuff you would find there are your settings, save files, custom ships, and other stuff.

I think it wants C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar\Mods.

It should (if Dark Avatar). Is there a GalCiv2\Mods folder you can copy?

Try coping the mods folder from the GalCiv2\Mods directory to create the DarkAvatar\Mods directly you want. Then enter the new mods directory and copy the "default" folder, rename it, and then edit the file "ModDescription.xml" to have the description you want.

----------------

Edit: The game might show you where its looking if you try to change which mod to use. I've renamed my DA mods folder, and its still trying to look for it where it should be.

Edit: Taking a look at your picture suggests that you are using a vista machine, correct? If so, the game folder might be stored some where else (along with the mods folder). Try opening either impulse or stardock central, and right clicking the game and select "open folder" or something like that.

If it's not under Program Files, that just means you installed it elsewhere--you should be able to just check the properties of the game's shortcut, and see where it's pointing at.

Concerning the eventually missing Mods folder...
You just need to create a "Mods" folder, once started the game and activated mods, it'll create the default mod directory structure. When once clicked on default button, the path should adjust accordingly to DL/DA/TA, standard is iirc ..\GalCiv2\Mods\Default a bit misleading I think.
I wonder if that has been fixed, when activating mods, the game also creates a Mods folder, not only the default sub folder.

Apparently, Program Files was hidden. Gawd, I hate Vista. Anyway, I found the correct file. However, as the screenshot shows, there is no Mods folder. Do I create this manually, and then add the sub-folders myself? Or is it all already there and I'm just overlooking something?

Tested and confirmed. It does work, but now my TA game doesn't point to GalCiv2\Mods now. I liked it that way. :SNIFF!:
