Make sure you're running the latest Sins version (1.05), and when you open the map file in notepad, it reads versionNumber 1.

Are you installing them to the galaxy folder in the game directory?? Not the user direction (under application data, local data, etc...)

Also to get rid of the obvious, GF maps don't show up under "Custom maps" in-game, they're listed among all the others. The Custom Maps category is for maps made with the in-game generator.
