Red Ribbon

The candles burning on the hand carved table

Red Ribbon

The candles burning on the hand carved table

Sitting here alone

Memories from my past

To most it’s all unknown

That ribbon on my finger

That won’t let me forget

Tug as I might

Hard as I can

My finger turns blue

And there’s nothing I can do

The red thread

It taunts

Teases

Just as you did my emotions

‘Till one day I broke

But that red silky ribbon

Still on my finger

Silently spoke

I fear

If I ever did get it off

It’d hurt even worse

The scar left

Would be more of a curse

Then that silky red ribbon

You left on my finger

The pain of getting it off

The scar left would be worse

It’ll hurt either way

But for now I’ll just stay

Sitting here

Watching the candles burn

On the hand carved table

Alone

The red ribbon once beautiful

I’d never forget you

It won’t stop throbbing

My heart won’t stop breaking

I still think

It’s easier this way

So the red ribbon will stay
