Uplink: Hacker Elite install hangs on 'Connecting...' from Impulse

I upgraded my machine and am reloading software, and it's nice to be able to just d/l everything from Stardock without worrying about finding CDs or DVDs. Everything works, except for Uplink: Hacker Elite. It says there is an update as of 7/2/2008, but any attempt to install results in it sitting around 'Connecting...' for a long time. I've been able to install OD components, GalCiv 1 + 2 + addons, and Sins of a Solar Empire just fine.

I can't find any reference to Uplink in the support forums, and in fact, no reference to Uplink in the store, either.

Help!

I fixed this by checking the box 'Use new downloading mechanism' in the Connection preferences.
