Needs WindowBlinds to apply theme?

Hello there.

I purchased Sins of a Solar Empire. You get a MyColors-Theme with it for free. Yesterday I updated MyColors and the SoaSE-Theme. Now I can't use the Theme without Windowblinds. What the heck? Am I supposed to be forced to buy WindowBlinds now? I don't want to!

Gimme my theme back!

first thing and the best thing to do is to inform or send email to stardock customer support. they can help you out. Always works for me. ;)

And in the meantime, to put your mind at ease, no you don't need to buy Windowblinds to load the MyColors themes, MyColors takes care of that. Stardock support will get you fixed up. :)

I will try to run SoSE under MyColors on my computer here.  Meanwhile, can you tell us what OS you are using?  Where did you get the download from (Impulse, our MyColors website, or a link in store receipt, etc)?

Thanks!

I updated the MyColors ThemeManager, and grabbed a download of SoSE through the MyColors ThemeManager, and everything worked fine. I'm on 32-bit XP.  Also try rebooting your machine.  Let us know what error messages (if any) you're getting.

Hello there.

Of course I rebooted my PC. I bought SoaSE over Stardockcentral, and got the theme with it. It worked fine (the theme downloaded, activated and registered through Impulse). There are no error-messages.

I'm on 32bit-WinXP too. But the theme says it requires windowblinds. I don't care, cause I wont buy WindowBlinds.

Hello,

I got mail from the support. They told me to uninstall, restart and make a fresh install from an older version. Okay, now it doesn't need WindowBlinds anymore, instead he wants the IconPackager =(

Not what you want to hear, but I don't want you chomping at the bit and getting frustrated-

Support's primary hours are Mon-Fri, so they are most likely not going to get back to you now for a couple of days. Individuals from there to check and post to these forums occasionally, so that might happen.

In the meantime, don't reply to their response with the ticket number on it, or re-send etc. It operates like an automated telephone que, oldest is dealt with first and you'll likely re-set your order. In other words, let it be, they'll most likely get back to you early next week.

As you can see, you didn't need to buy WindowBlinds, and you don't need to buy IconPackager either. I don't know exactly what the technical problems are, but have a little faith, Support will get you sorted out.

Granted it's not going so well, but no need to make it worse, right?

Thank you for your input DaveRI, but I hadn't in mind resending any responses. I make one response, then I'll wait. If I get no response in a certain time, I never again order something at the company that ignored me.

I don't want to say that Stardock will ignore me. I think they are something of a last "good" one out there....

Ashley,

It looks like we never received a reply to your support e-mail. Did you ever have the trial version of IconPackager installed on the machine? If so, that might be what's causing the issue. MyColors is able to apply the themes without the need for any of our other apps, so you won't ever need to buy them to use your theme (unless you want to).

Can you respond to the support ticket so that we can troubleshoot this further? When you do, can you attach your DxDiag info? To get it, please go to Start->Run (Start->Start Search) and type dxdiag. Once everything loads, please click the "Save all information" button and attach the output file in a return email.

Thanks a lot Shirley, I also attached my MSInfo-Export-File.

So, ten days without an answer? Support on holiday? Don't tell me you again did not recieve my e-mail...

Martin,
I just checked your support ticket, and we've not received a reply since July 17th, so we've never received your dxdiag file, nor any more information that Curt has requested.

As far as the Sins theme, try registering the game itself in Impulse;
Click on the registrations icon in the upper right corner and click the 'Add Registration' button. Enter the serial number, and the e-mail address you used to create your Stardock.net account.
Choose the appropriate category [Games] and product [Sins of a Solar Empire].

Then, in the MyColors app, right-click the listed Sins Theme and choose 'Delete'. Exit and restart MyColors and re-register the Theme, which will then reinstall it.

See if that fixes this issue.

Thank you. Now, after your procedure, MyColors keeps crashing trying to apply the WindowBlinds-Skin. Maybe I should giveup?
