Terror Stars

First, love the game.

Second, I was saddened to learn about the complete impotence of the terror star. Since it has a movement of 1, and is typically constructed in the late game, it usually requires years to reach a destination.

Even if I construct it near the enemy target system, the death star (oops, terror star) is useless after its one year journey to the target. So for 5,000 b.c. and 4 or 5 constructors, I get a pretty orb and bragging rights. Whoopee.

Please change this to a more reasonable movement rate of 3 or 4. I understand about balance issues, but this movement rate, while still slow compared to other ships in the late game, would make the terror star a somewhat mroe reasonable investment.

I want to kill stars, d*mn it! ;)

I agree. By the time my Terror Star had reached each destination, I had gotten bored and invaded the world or taken it through culture.

I too, think the movement speed of the Terror Star is a bit too slow, but I think a movement rate of 4 may be a bit too high. Maybe new upgrade modules for the Terror Star could be implemented that could provide a speed boost. I'm thinking perhaps, 2 module upgrades with a 'Terror Star Speed +1' rating each, thereby giving the Terror Star a maximum movement of 3. I don't think a speed of 3 would be too unbalancing, but I do kind of feel like a speed of 4 is a wee bit too much.

Just my opinion. :)

I'am not sure it is a good idea to accelerate these stars.....

After all, I watched an alterian (Bright) using a terror star against me...

It was horrible !!

Why not use your constructors (escorted) to build the Star where it's useful all at once? don;t convert your backfield player bases into TSs...

of course they're slow...they destroy stars. i had a bug in a game where i could move one 6 squares. i saved my game and proceeded to run rampant through the galaxy blowing up stars.

they're more useful as mobile party palaces anyway IMHO.

cheers

Yes, Dearmad, constructor improvements to the terror stars would be welcome, and I'd take the movement of 3 over the current snail's pace any day.

But one terror star should definitely be a HUGE deal, which is why they are appropriately expensive. I don't want the MOO 2 syndrome in which each civ has thirty "death stars."

Also, Dearmad, as I stated, I built the terror star within 7 parsecs of the target, and it took 7 turns (months) to arrive. That is all fine and good, but after destroying that target, the star will take anywhere for 1-3 years to arrive at a new target, making the battlestation a poor yet considerable investment.

And think of it on a realistic scale. While I realize that realism does not always equal fun in computer gaming, the idea of a battlestation taking a year to reach a target, especially when all other ships take only a few months, is ridiculous.

Skelteck, I understand your fear. But consider the following:

1)Even at a movement of 3, the terror star will be terribly slow when compared to late game dreadnoughts/battleships, and cruisers. This would give you appropriate time to assemble one or two strike forces.
This has an inherent coolness factor a.k.a. A New Hope or even Return of the Jedi (minus the teddy bears).
2) And if someone complains that they don't see the terror star coming, then I would respond that that player was silly to not monitor their borders with drones and scouts. Consider the terror star an incentive.

That is all (whew!)
