Increasing Fleet capacity

First of all, I apologise in advance if this question has been answered before.

I've got the game recently and so far it's pretty amazing, however I can't find out how to increase my fleet capacity and those damned pirates seems to be bent on annihilating my planets. I realise this is a pretty stupid question, but I haven't been able to find my answer on the intertubes and well, it's frustrating to be limited to a small fleet.

The fleet capacity and the capital ship crews research is part of the "Fleet Logistics" section of the research window ;)

I have the same problem. It says I need to do research in certain areas but I cant find these in the tech tree. do I just need to increase the amount of empire and weapons factory buildings or am I missing something?

To upgrade your fleet capacity to tier x, you have to have a minimum x lab(s). They can be either civil or military labs. So, for tier two, you need a minumum two labs, and so on.

These are done per planet, you have to research Logistics and Tactical planet upgrades :)
