I haven't tried it yet, I figure it will probably be so addicting that if I ever do I won't want to go back (sort of like +15 PQ was, which I also pretty much avoided), so I'm staying away from it. I'd be interested to know what percentage of wins at masochistic involve a +speed bonus for a racial trait. Grabbing planets as fast as possible would be crucial to success at that level, I would think.

I went from speed+2 to PQ+15 to speed+2 then lastly speed+1 and economics.

Speed is a powerful pick and its cost is accordingly high.

It is indeed addictive - watching colony ships crawl at 2 parsecs per turn is quite maddening to the speedster :)

Yup.. the 4 cost for speed went up to 5. Still almost worth it.. it is a great early game ability. But later on it is not as worthwhile, as you get other speed techs, etc. I don't take it as often now, since it is 5. :p

I disagree. It is decidedly worth it even in the end game, especially if you also manage to get a monopoly on Gravity Accelerators. If your ships move 50% as fast as your enemy, you can sustain your war effort with far fewer ships due to higher manueverability. You can retreat damaged ships for repairs without having to worry about getting caught up and destroyed, and they zip back into combat repaired before your opponent has a chance to retailiate. Great pick!

I found that the advantages I choose, didn't come up with my senate bonusses (they remained the standard bonusses). I reported this bug, do you guys also experience this?
